Sportura: Fast, Below Radar

Seiko Sportura watches combine sleek look with chronograph functions and project a highly focused, goal-oriented character. Seiko Sportura consists of chronographs in its entirety, some of the watches including several tracking options. Inspired by motor sports, these timepieces avoid the stylistic flourishes evident in Seiko Coutura; instead, they demonstrate visual characteristics that conjure up stealth, cunning and below-radar invisibility.

Style & Design

Seiko Sportura is obviously a function oriented collection – yet it successfully combines utility with style. For instance, sometimes it may appear as if the rapier-shaped hands were given too much space, considering the diameter of the dials. This unusual characteristic echoes the relationship between a racing car and the track: the car covers only a small part of the track, yet it draws all the attention. Sportura casually employs extremely bright colors (red, orange) that glare on the black dials and maximize legibility in harsh physical conditions. Four large crews fix the bezel on the case and generate a sense of stability.

Seiko Sportura includes the following functions: chronographs of all kinds and sorts, a tachymeter, an alarm, power reserve, and a set of inner functions such as the overcharge preventer. Additionally, the watches were cast of stainless steel with an added durability factor (high-graded), and equipped with an anti-glare sapphire crystals.

Movement & Technology & Price

Seiko Sportura watches come in trademark quartz and kinetic movements. Seiko kinetic movement propels the hands and the various functions by converting energy from the wearer's bodily movements. An additional elaboration on the kinetic movement includes a self-regulating mechanism that stops the hands when the watch is left unused for a long period of time, but keeps track of time inside the caliber. When moved again, the watch automatically resets itself to the current time, and continues to run as if nothing happened!

World time caliber shows time in 24 cities across the globe using an electronic window on the dial. This unique variation combines the analog with the digital in one timepiece; tradition and technology on one plane.

Price

Sportura pieces cost around $600, usually you'll find watches for half that sum on eBay.
