Look for Gents Watches Online First

You may want to look around online first to see what kind of stores sell gents watches. Many stores carry simple watches that will due for someone who is careless or rough on watches, but you will want to look for a store that really knows watches before you consider spending any kind of money on a watch. Of course, any gentleman’s watch is going to be somewhat more expensive than a regular watch, but that is fine, especially for a Father’s Day gift or an anniversary gift. The watch store you select should have a good selection of whatever name brand you are looking at, plus plenty of selections of competing name brands. This will give a decent idea of what all is available in the price ranges you are looking at for a gents wrist watch. A reputable watch store should not be hassling you to buy right away or to select the watch they are currently running a deal on. If they are, try shopping somewhere else. A good watch or jewelry store knows that you are spending decent money for something nice, and will help you select the best watch you are looking for, and will provide good customer service doing so. And, if you find what you are looking for at the store, you can come back online and purchase it for what is probably an even better deal.

What Kind of Watch Does He Like?

Another thing to consider is what kind of watch the gentleman would like. Does he like the larger style watch that is actually kind of thick, or does he prefer the slimmer, sleeker style of watches? Rolex’s tend to be a little bigger and flashier than some other watch brands, but of course a Rolex is, literally, the gold standard in fine gents watches. Swiss watches can be slimmer and a more understated style of watch if the man you are thinking of likes to wear nice things, but likes to keep it low key. The face of the watch is also a deciding factor. Some watches feature roman numerals for the hours, while others have symbols or numbers. If you are shopping for an older gentleman, you might to look at getting a watch with a higher contrast face, with larger numbering or symbols. This will make it easier to read the watch at a glance, without the wearer having to hold their arm out or squint. Rarely is a digital watch considered a luxury watch, though they certainly exist. But, there is just something about the analog movement with beautiful craftsmanship of the parts and the watch face that makes luxury watches tend to be analog, mechanical movements.

The Watchband Is Important Too

Another consideration when selecting a fine watch for a gentleman is the watch band. Watch bands come in all different types and styles, but most luxury gents watches will have a band made out of a precious metal, such as gold or platinum. When selecting a watch band, remember the band takes a lot of abuse, and must keep the watch attached, especially in the case of an expensive watch you do not want to lose. Bands come in all carats of gold, from 1 – 24k gold. A 24k gold watch band is going to be very soft however, as gold itself is very soft, and 24k gold has a high gold content. This will make the watch and band much more likely to scratch, but of course 24k gold is the top of the line, and very expensive. For a luxury watch, gold plated is not really acceptable, but will do for the lower price ranges. Of course, gold plating will wear over time, eventually exposing the metal beneath, and possibly discoloring the skin of the wearer. Try to stick with gold or platinum for the really good high end watches.

The Man Is Worth More Than The Watch

Any special gent in your life is worth way more than a watch. But getting them a watch for Father’s Day, an anniversary, or birthday can really show how much you love and appreciate them. Taking the time to shop around, compare features and prices, and really deciding on what to get the man in your life for a watch really shows when they receive their gift. Hopefully, this article helps when selecting a gents watches for the man in your life.
