Self Publishing success

Writers are my favorite people. I suppose it's because we are driven to wite and the publish our work. Google search publishing and a long drop down list shows that there are a lot of writers trying to get published simply from all the different ways we research the topic.

We have a burning desire to create, to write that story that's screaming to get into print. So, we write it. Then what? Well ,then we try to get it published. There are a few alternatives to pick from. There are the online traditional (off line also) publishing houses such as Tor Books or Daw. Then there are sites like Lulu.com and Blurb.com where you pay to have your book published on demand ( also known as Vanity Presses) and there is self publishing. Self publishing can be very rewarding but may be a little harder for the new author to accomplish because of cost and the need to promote your book yourself.

Before you self publish-look here

Before you attempt to self publish try and get a traditional publisher to handle your book. The benefits of having a traditional publisher include professional editorial and illustration assistance as well as getting the best cover art for your book and the cover is what sells the book in many cases.

There are some really useful sites with resources to aid you in getting your book published. One I just discovered is a sort of onlinepublishing directory.

Search For Publishers

Here is what they say about their service:

"Search for Publishers is a unique publishing directory that gives you access to some of today most dynamic book publishers who are currently seeking to develop new authors. It doesn't matter whether you want to get a novel published, a non-fiction title, a children's book, a cookbook, or perhaps yours would appeal to a small book publisher -- Search for Publishers can provide a wealth of essential information to help you publish a book."

The publishers so far listed are traditional as opposed toself publishing outlets. For a new writer self publishing can be difficult due to the writer basically having to do everything from copy editing to all the marketing.

Author House- another self publishing choice

Here is a pblisher who works very closely with their writers and offers very reasonable rates as well as good support in promoting your book. The item below is from their site and is called Why Author House?

"AuthorHouse provides a comprehensive range of publishing and promotional services including design, production, distribution and marketing. Every book receives worldwide distribution through Ingram Book Group's network of over 25,000 book stores and via the Internet at Amazon.com, Barnes&Noble.com, and the AuthorHouse online store.

Most AuthorHouse books are printed using the latest print-on-demand (POD) technology offered by Ingram’s subsidiary, Lightning Source. Because POD books are generated one at a time, they neatly sidestep the high costs traditionally associated with bringing new books to the marketplace. However, in instances when off-set print runs are more logical, AuthorHouse has infrastructure in place to support this book printing method."

Book Surge

Writing for Cash  with Booksurge

Writers love to write for numerous reasons but we all share the goal of seeing our work in print. Getting published used to be a difficult and expensive process.

Self publishing on the web or through some of the off-line presses came on the scene. The end result was usually spending a lot of money to get a few copies of your book gathering dust in your home and not earning any money.

Now there is a better way!

Book Surge is a division of Amazon which offers the talents of experts in book publishing, editing and promotion to help you get your book on book store shelves and, ahem, making you some money.

Book Surge pays 35% royalties on each book sold and pays you every month. They have several packages to choose from  in getting your book published all at reasonable prices.  My favorite is called  the Total Design Freedom package. This package has two versions. One for standard book publication and one for children's books.   Starting at about $800.00 these options include everything from custom design for your book inside and  designing a cover that will make shoppers want to grab your book right away. ISBN and bar code number assignment is included ( this alone is saving you hundreds of dollars) and assistance in promoting your book.  Your book is listed on Amazon.com and with Alibris and Abebooks  as well as book wholesalers and retailers such as Baker & Taylor, R.R.Bowkers Books and Nielsen Book Data in the U.K. This enables book sellers and wholesalers around the world to have access to your book.  In addition Book Surge Direct  will promote your book to libraries. Imagine the pride you'd feel to stand in the library and see your books on the shelf! They even send you complimentary copies of your book.   For a hassle free experience in getting your book published just go to Amazon.com Book Surge and look around. Compare the plans and read the author's success stories. You will find it to be the easiest and most cost effective way to print and sell your books.
