French designers have a created a special tea cup that will make teaspoon obsolete. The drinker just has to gently swirl the cup to mix the tea contents and sugar.

Anna Gram, a company based in France is promoting this new product. The novel tea cup has a ceramic ball positioned at the bottom of the mug that seems to move about within a circular ring enclosure.

The tea drinker adds sugar to the bottom of the tea or coffee drink and gently swirl the cup as shown in the picture below. This will make the ceramic ball to bounce around at the bottom of the mug and its movements stirs the contents inside. This is similar to swirling a glass of wine or cognac.

Florian Dussopt, 23, one of the inventors told the Telegraph newspaper: "The cup aims at introducing a new way of drinking tea or another warm drink without using a spoon.

Dussopt displayed this cup at the London Design Festival.

The ceramic ball mixes all various sugars and milk at the same time, thus eliminating the need for a spoon.

Dussopt said when the person drinks the tea from the cup, the ball is blocked by the gravity in the recess of the glass enclosure.

He added about the cup:

"Ceramic is a material that is hygienic and beautiful at the same time…The combination of glass and ceramic is aesthetically appealing in its formal interpretation of the traditional cup and saucer…The aim is not to kill the spoon, but to suggest an alternative for a special occasion."

Dussopt’s team has named the cup, “Ceramic For Mix” and aim to introduce this in bars and restaurants.

Anna Gram has made a number of prototypes and they are looking for a manufacturer and buyers.

Now you can drink tea like James Bond, shaken and stirred.

cgull, I love your hubs because they bring me close to things that are happening today. Cheers to you!

But I gotta say, I'll take my own hand to swirl cognac and my own hand to stir tea, every time. That's the essence of the pleasure.

Thanks Sally, glad to hear this :). Drinking tea with loved ones is special, it develops bonding and friendship. It is also healthy, so why not enjoy it fully. Cheers :)

Sally, I agree, have the fun/warmth/comfort is the stirring or shaking of the drink by your own power... what will they think of next -- it's an interestingly designed glass. hmm =)

Swirling the glass is just as natural to me as using a spoon and you don't have to drink around the spoon or find a place to put a sticky spoon when you don't need it. I think it is an idea that many will find usefull. I'm just concerned that the cup isn't insulated enough to keep the tea hot long enough.

Wow, what a beautiful design. Thanks for finding and sharing, cgull8m.

But wouldn't you burn yourself on the glass when you went to pick it up? I burn myself on the little tea cups at the chinese restaurant because they don't have handles, and they're ceramic.

Lifesabeachforme, good point, probably their future designs might have insulated one and also be not as hot on the outside like annemaeve says. Usually the tea ceremony takes place and finishes faster, but they have to modify this design if the cup needs to be taken out and if it is going to be drank for a long time.

Beachbum_Gabby, yes, ideal time :)

I love to watch 'fluid dynamics' in my tea cup, sometimes. Well, designers are for designing new objects/products and customers are the best testing tool about their quality...
