Sell Your Hubs For Cash? Why Not?
60You Might As Well Cash In on Your Hard Work
How many times have you read a new hub and said to yourself. "Why didn't I write that?"
We are all a part of Hubpages.com for different reasons. Some of us are here to improve our writing, express ourselves creativley, blow off some steam or maybe just write about our passions. Others, may want the all elusive Google Adsense brass ring. I'm here for a few of those reasons, but since my first priority is taking care of my family (and paying that darned mortgage each month), money is what I require each month. Why not sell my hubs, much like I'd sell a DVD or CD on eBay? If it's got value (or future potential value) why not let it go to someone who is willing to pay for it?
I can hear the Hubpages purists condemming my soul to Hub hell now.
How could you ever sell your hub? Hubs are intensely personal, theyr'e from you, they're an expression of your ideas and creativity, blah, blah, blah. To that I say, "It could also pay for my grocery bill, so step off. If you don't want to sell your hub, don't do it." I, on the other hand will proudly sell my hubs. My hubs are working hard for me, walking the streets of Google, winking at sailors and soliciting everyone of you who come along to read them. I'm proud to admit that my hubs are whores who are not afraid to lift up their skirts and show you some leg. Just call me Hub Pimp. They're for sale. All of them.
WHAT IS MY HUB WORTH?
Setting a fair price for your hub involves asking yourself a few questions.
1.) Is it making a ton of money, or is it barely a blip on the Hubpages radar?
2.) Is it of intense personal value to you? If so, you may not want to sell it at any price, much like you probably wouldn't sell a wedding ring left to you by your grandmother.
3.) Are you happy with its current income, or are you willing to grab cash for it now?
4.) How badly does the buyer want your hub?
THE PROCESS OF SELLING YOUR HUB
Once you find an interested buyer, it's pretty much up to the two parties involved to decide the details. Will the buyer be sending you a check, using Paypal? Western Union, etc.? Is the buyer requesting a signed release (probably a good idea) from you that this is not only your original work, but that you will never publish it again, resell it, write something else exactly like it under another title, etc.? If the transaction amount is high, you may want to speak with an attorney concerning transfer of written work. Also make sure that the seller owns 100% of any accompanying photographs before purchase. (You don't want any trouble later on.) You can basically put any type of restriction on the sale or purchase of your hubs as long as they are agreeable to both parties. Obviously, be careful engaging in ANY online transaction. I've heard there are many dishonest people out there.
HOW DO I TRANSFER MY HUB?
Copy and paste your hub somewhere else on your computer, or ask the purchasing party to do so. Delete it from Hubpages (or what ever website the blog post or hub you're selling is located) and let the buyer submit it as his/her own. Pretty easy.
WHAT THEN?
That's it. Much like selling a car or your house, you're out of it once you've got the money in your hand. Google (Amazon, eBay, etc.) revenue will now go to the appropriate account-and you in turn, can pay your Netflix account this month.
Now go write another kickass hub! And then sell it!

Intriguing indeed!
Thank you folks. I've seen some extremely well-written articles on Hub Pages that I have thought would make (possibly) some wonderful investments.
I wonder if transferring a hub wouldnt result in the "new" hub being penalized for duplicate content. In other words, let's say the first hub you are selling has been picked up by the search engines and has a high ranking which is probably why someone would want to buy it - then you delete the first hub and the buyer publishes the new hub with the copied content. At that point the "new" hub gets checked for duplicate content and hubpages discovers identical content already on the net. Result: the new hub gets flagged for duplicate content.
Not sure if that would be a problem. It would be interesting to try an experiment. You could try it by simply republishing one of your own hubs: make a copy, delete the hub, and then republish it and see if it gets roughly the same score.
Love it.
That's a good point, quotations . (Of course, I didn't think of that!) I don't know if the Googlebots (or HubPages for that matter) would penalize the temporary change.
Nice read, thanks...interesting concept..but where do you find a market for interested parties?
Thanks, djtphn1 . How about starting a hub on the subject here, blogging on MySpace or Facebook, or possibly Blogger? You never know who may be interested.
like this idea. And why shouldn't your hubs lift up their skirts? lol
Hi sanssecre, thank for the vote of confidence. My hubs have lifted their skirts and are showing off their bony little knees:)
I want to buy this hub how would you charge or come to a price?
Hi compu-smart. Good question. Since I have not actually sold a hub (or blog posting) in the past, I would probably base the value of my hub on a few factors.
1.) Time spent writing it.
2.) Age of the blog (online)
3.) Google (or other) earnings.
If it were a new hub or post (as this one is at this writing) I would more than likely flat fee it as time spent.
I think this is a potential business as long as one doesn't "fall in love" with their hubs. The obvious drawback is if a dishonest person changed a few words in the hub, it becomes their hub without paying for it. I'm trying to figure out how to leap that hurdle now.
Thanks for the comment.
great idea i'm all about the lifting of the skirt as long as what's under there is not the same as what i have--smiling.
thanks for the laugh, fyxer!
rockingjoe, this idea is still interesting,,, i dont think i would sell my hubs and it sounds too much of a complicated task to implement..
