Senior railcard

A senior railcard is a railcard for anyone over the age of 60.  With a senior railcard anyone over the age of 60 years old can save 1/3 on standard and first class rail travel throughout the UK.  The cost of a senior railcard works out to about £2 a month.

A senior person can use their senior railcard for both long and short trips across the country.  A senior railcard can be used at any time during the week except for Morning Peak period services.

A senior railcard for 3 years is also available for 3 years at the price of £65.


Renew Senior RailCard online

There are 3 ways to buy a senior railcard:

1.       Buy a senior railcard online

2.       Buy a senior railcard at the station

3.       Buy a senior railcard over the phone

Buying a senior railcard online:

To purchase a senior railcard online it will take 1 business day, please ensure you have enough time before buying your senior railcard online.  You can only buy a 3 year senior railcard online.  To buy your senior railcard online you will need your UK Passport or drivers license to verify your age online.

Buy Your Senior railcard at station ticket office or national rail licensed travel agent:

To buy at the station you will need cash, cheques, debit, credit, charge charge cards, or postal orders.

If you are renewing your senior railcard alls you will need is your old railcard, an application form, and the payment.

If your applying for the first time you will need one of the following to verify your age:

·         Birth Certificate

·         Passport

·         Driving License

Buying Senior railcard over the phone:


Call your nearest Train Company telesales number.  For Train Company telesales numbers contact National Rail Enquiries on 08457 48 49 50 (calls charged at local rate and may be recorded) or visit www.nationalrail.co.uk.

·         If you're renewing your Railcard then quote your existing  Railcard number and expiry date.

·         Payment can be made by credit or debit card. If you purchase your Railcard from a Train Company Telesales Centre then you must allow at least 14 days for delivery.

Restrictions On senior Railcard

  • Season tickets including Travelcard Season tickets 
  • Eurostar tickets
  • Some Train Company specific promotional offers
  • Tickets for special excursion or Charter trains and some coach/bus links, including Railair services
  • Most London Underground and Docklands Light Railway tickets
