How Your MInd Works

Before you begin goal setting in earnest, some quick background information will add to your success in using the five methods listed below..

Every single creation that you experience, whether it is an event, circumstance, physical object or any type of relationship, begins as a structure in your mind and then out pictures in your reality. There is a mental equivalent inside of you for everything going on outside of you. You must accept this as an initial premise to goal set. For if you believe that there is no underlying order or cause/effect principle going on in your life, then there is no reason to even bother to set goals. Life would be chaos. If you believe this is true, then of course it will be, since we outpicture the mental images we hold within.

We set goals because we believe that images that we imagine and intend and vividly hold in our mind will be outpictured in our life experience. There is no other reason to do it. We are telling the Universal forces what we want so they can go about the task of bringing about the results in our life. What we are seeking here are methods that encourage our minds to focus on the mental images and emotional energy of circumstances, events and things that we want to experience.

We also need techniques that keep us from being side-tracked by current circumstances, which are outpictured effects of thoughts we have held in the past and present.

Goal Achievement in a Nutshell

1. Keep the image of what you passionately want steadily and vividly in your mind, with the intended purpose of having it manifest in your outer experience.

2. Keep the image of current circumstances that you do NOT want out of your mind and thoughts as if they no longer exist in your world.

The following techniques are to be used as tools to help you find success in training your mind to perform the above two tasks. They have been used with great success by many people.

1. Make a Clear Mental Picture of Your Goal

"Imagination is more important than knowledge" Albert Einstein

There is only One mind and we are not separate from it. As we make a mental image we use this Mind and thus have all the resources of it at our command. When you set a goal, and then make a mental image of it, you are putting in an "order" to the Universe which it then immediately goes to work to fulfill. Don't concern yourself with the ways and means of how your goal will be fulfilled, that is the job of the Universe to figure out, not yours.

Just as if you were putting in an order to a catalogue, you must know in detail what you want. If you have a vague idea or image in your mind, the Universal Law of Correspondence doesn't have a good firm image to correspond to and doesn't know what to manifest. Wishy washy goals bring wishy washy results.

So it is very important to make your mental image clear, detailed, defined and exact. Be specific. Bring color and movement into your image. See it as a movie happening, with you as the main character. Feel the emotions that come along with the completion of your goal. Make it feel like it is true and already in existence. The Universal substance does not know the difference, because it does not reason, just performs, so it always provides you with the outer effect of your predominant inner mental equivalent. That is its function. Your function is to hold the thought clearly. Together you work to manifest your goals.

The Universe Had No Clear Picture to Manifest

Don't get frozen wondering if a desire is right for you. Search your heart and find the true strong desire that is there. You can trust that it is right for you since if you strongly desire it, it is a part of you already. In fact your true desires will not be denied and will keep on asking you to create them if you ignore them. There is no competition and no opposition for what is yours and metaphysically belongs to you. You know what it is by your strong feelings for it. It belongs to you.

2. Make a Goal Book or Wheel of Fortune

This is fun. Go on line and find a picture that closely resembles what you desire so you can look at it often and bring up your feelings that surround it. Then write out some affirmations in the present tense that specify the details of your goal as if you have already reached it. Next buy an inexpensive notebook at an office supply store and some plastic sheets to put inside it. Then paste or tape your pictures and affirmations to a piece of paper and slip it inside the page. You can have various pages for various goals, material things, relationships, recreation and travel, health and fitness, spiritual, or anything else that you are looking to improve in your life.

Alternately you can get a large piece of poster board and make a large circle upon it with a felt pen. Then divide it like a pie, making every section a different categorie like discussed in the example of the notebook above. Paste your pictures and write your affirmations right on the poster board, and then hang it in your bedroom where you see it everyday. ( See the example at right. Yours will have real photos and more detailed affirmations.) Focus and concentrate on your images when ever you can. Remember to be detailed and not vague. Keep a positive attitude of expectancy and avoid looking at circumstances as they currently are. Live in the new ideas that you are forming in your mind.

I taught this method in a class to my sales team at work and they hung the result in their offices. The outcome was truly amazing. Even though many of them were sceptical at first, most of their goals had come true in a short period of time..

3. Write Your Goals Down and Stay Aligned with them

I believe you absolutely must write your goals down for them to come into manifestation. Make a 1 year list of your main goals. Look at them often and go through and modify and update them. Add monthly goals and daily "to do" lists. We live as an egg shape form of swirling moving energy. Quantum physics proves it. We only have a certain amount of energy to use every day, so it is vitally important to be using it in the direction of our goals. Having them written down is a powerful way to keep us on track and moving toward what we want.

A method spiritual seekers use to obtain personal power is to constantly "check" themselves throughout the day to make sure they are not squandering their precious store of energy. Acting emotionally, giving attention to things that do not benefit you such as TV news, gossiping and complaining, do nothing but drain you of valuable energy. To gain your goals you must keep in mind where you are going at all times and act with impeccability to align yourself with the energies moving toward your goals, not away from them. Also, there is strong power in saying "I am" so do not put those two words in front of anything that you do not want to be true.

To keep your goals in front of you, make 3x5 cards for a smaller version of your goal. Write a goal out in a sentence in colorful felt pens, and draw a little picture of it on the card, remembering that color and pictures help us image better. Make them to hang on your refrig, your bathroom mirror, and your car. If you are setting a goal for a material object, find a picture of it and make copies and put it all over the place. Every time you see it say, "That is mine" or "I am that". There is strong power in saying "I am that." You are imprinting the image on your subconscious and the Universe will have to produce it for you. It is the way it is set up.

When you look over your goals, repeat them out loud and with enthusiasm. This helps embed them in your subconscious. Enthusiasm is very important for it is the feeling content of the image that the Universe needs to form a mental equivalent.

Keep an Upbeat Attitude

4. Eliminate Worry and Anxiety

Anxious and negative thoughts that we allow to chase each other around our in our mind, are major deterrents to achieving what we want. Do not allow yourself the luxury of those thoughts that lead to emotions that begin to tear down your beautiful mental image within and make it take on the pattern of your worries and fears. This causes the Universe to become confused about what you want.

Here are some suggestions to help get rid of those thoughts:

1) Immediately begin to repeat a short positive affirmation over and over to banish the worry thought. (ie. My desired goals now appear in my life.)

2) Begin singing a silly little song, like "Don't Worry, Be Happy".

3) Start repeating the fibonacci sequence (ie. 1+1= 2, 1+2=3, 2+3= 5, 3+5=8 etc. to infinity) This is great to do when you are going to sleep as it keeps your mind occupied but is extremely boring.

4. Try and form the letters of your worry thought into a backwards sentence in your mind. (ie. Ekorb ma I )

The idea of the above 4 suggestions is to get our mind off thoughts that will provoke emotions that will start tearing down our hard earned work of creating our goal images. We do this by putting our minds immediately on something else. Some times I just like to yell "Go Away!" to my worry thoughts, so they know they are not welcome.

5. Keep Your Mind Off Past or Current Circumstances

It is important to be consistant in our thoughts about our desired goals. One of the most difficult things to do is not look at our present circumstances. We have formulated our goal as something that does not exist in our life. The tendency of our 5 senses is to concentrate on our outer life as it is. When you want to change something about your outer life, or add something new to it, it is imperative not to predict your future success on the past or present.

The reason we set our goal is to bring about change. We have begun to realize that the outer is a reflection of the inner, so there must be inner mental and belief structures inside our minds that our holding our current circumstances in place. By focusing and concentrating on our new ideas and images we are changing those images, and allowing a new pattern to be built which will soon emerge into our life experience. If we insist on looking at current circumstances as unwanted yet fixed and immovable, we are causing ourselves to emotionally imprint them even stronger on our mind's image.

We must be ever vigilant to keep up our positive mental imaging, lest past thoughts creep in to tear them down. There is much power in gratitude, so give thanks for your accomplished goal, even before you can see it.

Think of your desires as little children waiting to be born from you. Don't deny them but nurture them and provide a place for them to grow. Otherwise you may reach the end of your life and have to say, "I never really had what I wanted".

Here are a few helpful quotes :

The person who can keep his thoughts one pointed is the one who will obtain the best results. Ernest Holmes

Behind your clear vision must be the real intention to realize it, to bring it into tangible expression. Wallace D. Wattles

If one asks for success and prepares for failure, he will get the situation he has prepared for. So prepare for the thing asked for, even when there isn't the slightest sign of it in sight. Florence Shovel Shinn
