Here in America, they say everything is negotiable. People thrive on the prospect of negotiating down the price of a used car. We like haggling over the price of a home improvement project.

But when it comes to credit card debt, most of us do not think we can haggle or negotiate with our credit card companies. And nothing is further from the truth.

But the truth is that you can negotiate and settle with your credit card companies and get your balances reduced.

So if you owe $20,000 for example and you have $10,000 in cash available to give them right now, they may accept your settlement offer.

You have to show them that it is in their best interest to accept what you are offering now then to wait for months or even years to see what they can get later from you.

The banks and credit card companies get to deduct what they lose on your account so it may hurt them a little but they still get to account for your loss. And if not the government will just bail them out again.

But we are not that fortunate, we do not have a bailout program like the big billion dollar banks.

Except for debt consolidation and debt settlement programs. Bankruptcy is not that great of an option because you still have to repay most of what you owe over a period of time.

What I would suggest is you talk to an expert in debt settlement and get their advice about what kind of results you can expect and how soon you could be out of debt. You don't have to sign anything to get their advice.

How To Settle Credit Card Debt Yourself

Or if you prefer not to deal with a debt settlement company and want to settle credit card debt yourself, you can do so.

You still need to get some of the information about the timelines it takes to become debt free. You may want to wait until your account gets sent to the collection agency instead of the credit card company before you offer a settlement.

There are reasons for this that you need to be aware of. If you do not, you could be missing out on several thousand dollars in savings.

In only takes a small amount of time to find out what you need to know, there are plenty of books and home study courses that can help you get the proven tactics to settling your credit card debts yourself.

If you find yourself up to your eyeballs in debt that you don't think you can pay, you will be relieved to know that there are options to help you dig your way out. If you are in debt already, don't be in such a hurry to get into more debt with these people that claim to have you debt free in 12-36 months or will negotiate with your creditors and get you out of debt.
