Work Those Links
Use blogrolls and bookmarks to keep track of the bloggers you read. You can also link to interesting posts in your own posts and use the trackbacks feature to let those people know about the link. If you're lucky, those people will also link back to you and you'll get new readers for your blog. But that's only one part of the story. The best way to keep getting readers for your posts is to link to them in other posts. After all, you're the person who's most likely to know if one of your blog posts is related to another.
These strategies are a good way of building a blog readership and a sense of community with your readers. Once you've done that, your readers will come to you with questions and comments that will lead to other blog posts - and you'll be sure that someone wants to read them.

- Is Your Writing Like Powdered Milk?
There’s a fine line between research and plagiarism. How often have you researched a topic only to find that someone else has already said it in the best possible way? When that happens, the temptation is to rewrite and disguise it, but use it anyway. The trouble is, that’s not creative. It’s like adding water to [...] - 2 days ago

Thanks for stopping by RennyBA. I agree that the conversations are what have made blogging so interesting. It's certainly kept me interested :)
Hey, thanks for a great guide. Your suggestions are easy to follow and very helpful. I have one suggestion. Please do clarify the concept of a 'successful' blog. Do you mean merely page hits or a specifi targetted readership? IMHO, the number of quality readers who read your blog out of interest and tend to return should be a major criteiron of a blog's success.
Happy writing and happy blogging!
Great article, thanks! Just found you through the blogging network over at Ryze.
Jenny
Thanks for your comments monideepa and Jenny. I take your point, monideepa. For me a successful blog is one that is read and enjoyed or is useful to my audience. The conversation with readers is important, too.
This is absolutely great advice! One thing I would add is that inertia must be overcome. People put things off for reasons that just don't need to be a factor. "Just Do It" is an apt mantra for those of us who are procrastinators, perfectionists and analysts.
There is something cathartic about putting up the first blog entry: "Aaaah. I've done it."
Nice to see you walking the walk, Sharon!
Mitch
Really enjoyed reading around your article.
Rappinhood,

This was a great summery of recommendation and after a year of experience I'll give you five for this post.
If I should ad something, I would say blogging should feel fun to do. Find your way so it don't drain but gives you energy and sometimes it's hard to find that balance.
You might also have mentioned that follow up the comments are important. I would say that it is the comments that give me energy to blog on as it enriches the subject in the posts. I have had some interesting discussions about Norwegian culture, traditions and habits on my blog.
My saying is that 'Blogging connecting People' and also 'Bridging the cultural gap', so lets make blogs not wars:-)
