Sex and Your Auto Insurance

Introduction
Ok......lets be honest what's more sexy than a good looking woman and a hot car! After all, unless you've been hiding under some kind of rock, everybody knows sex sells! So why don't insurance companies use more sex in their adds? Why use ducks and lizzards and not some hot babe or dude? In this hub I'm going to explore this topic.
Sex and Cars
Like smoke and fire, sex and cars just seem to go together. From the "good ole' days" when Saturday night ment cruising the strip with your hot rod and babe to today's intense interest in NASCAR, it just seems that sex and cars were ment to be together. If you don't think so just look at some of the ads being run by car manufacturers. Sleek smooth lines of a new styled high performance vehicle compared with the silky lines of a womans leg.
What About Sex and Car Insurance?
Sex has always played a role in the pricing of your car insurance. As a general rule youthful drivers, those first licensed, are catagorized into certain rating slots. One of those being sex. Youthful male drivers have always carried a stigma of being poorer drivers than their female counterparts. Thus in rating formulas the youthful male is tagged with a much higher premium than the female. It's not really about being fair, or anything close to it. It's all about charging premiums based on the actual statistical experience of whoever may be the primary driver. Insurance companies are kings when it comes to statistical data and interpretation of that data and unfortunately the data shows youthful male drivers are involved in more accidents that females.
What Is A Sexy Car?
Well I can tell you it's not your family station wagon! So what's a sexy car to you....a hot cherry red Chevy Corvette Convertible, you pick the year....a late 60's Plymouth Roadrunner with a Hurst shifter....a Midnight Black 1956 Ford T-Bird....a 1957 Chevy Belair, black in color....a 1974 Triumph Spitfire, British Racing Green....don't forget the classic British TR6....and the list goes on and on and on! Whatever happened to the those classic designs that inspired fire in our hearts? Are all the "hot" cars now relegated to the weekend car shows?
Now What's It All About....
Just look around. Seems like all the cars you see now are just cute little boxes and it's very hard to tell one from another. Just the other day I pulled up behind a non-descript box car and couldn't tell if it was a Saturn, Toyota, Scion or Chevy unless I got close enough I could read the label. Gone are the days of fantastic designs....available to the general public.
Insurance Companies and Sexy Ads
Ok, so I got all that out of the way...cars are not designed like they used to be, the good ole' days are gone forever and everybody has a different idea of what a hot car should be!
So why don't insurance companies use sexy ads? Real simple, the insurance industry and more specifically, individual insurance companies, feel they must portray themselves to the general public as a pillar of strength, above reproach. They win, when they convince you that they're the only ones you can depend on when you have some type of catastrophe.
We've all seem the TV ads...from the "good hands people" to your "fast, fair, friendly" insurance agent that meets you when you have an accident and brings you a pizza. All this is designed to give you a good feeling about buying your insurance from their company.
Any reference to sex in an insurance ad would have to be just wrong, wouldn't it? Wouldn't it go counter to the image these companies try to portray? There's your answer. It's all about image. Not so much about substance...but about image.
Summary
Don't go looking for insurance industry ads to change in the near future. Underneath all this you'll find a service industry that provides great products to the public through many different delivery systems. The insurance industry, while it's fun sometimes to poke fun at them, has served, and continues to serve the public with valuable products protecting lives and assets.
Thanks!

You know, I'm tired of being offered insurance from a lizard and a duck. The one that really makes no sense to me is that you can buy life insurance from Snoopy.
