This is a new, extended trailer, which has been circling on the Internet at sites such as www.Jezebel.com, but is now on the official movie website. The movie, after many years of gossip and rumors, finally opens in theatres on May 30th. The movie takes place 4 years after the series has ended.
The trailer shows much more than the previous 30 second teaser of a trailer that only included clips of fast-paced footage and almost no dialogue. We learn that Carrie Bradshaw, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Big, Chris Noth, are engaged and moving in together! As Charlotte York-Goldenblatt, played by Kristin Davis, reads the engagement announcement from the New York Times over the phone, we also learn Big's full name, John James Preston! (We learned that his name was John in the final episode of SATC)
The next revelation is that Charlotte has received her adoptive daughter from China. She appears in 3 clips: one with Charlotte and Harry on a carousel, on a bed with the 4 girls, and being read Cinderella by Carrie, who promptly lets the little girl know that fairy tales don't always happen in real life.
We learn that there is some conflict, of course, between Carrie and Big regarding the wedding. She wants a big wedding (Later in the clip she admits that she let the wedding get "bigger than big") and he tells her that he just wants her. We see flashes of Carrie in a wedding dress (these scenes have been overly publicized and until now were promoted as dream sequences in the press, not likely) and Charlotte, Samantha Jones, and Miranda Hobbes-Brady in black, red, and purple bridesmaids dresses before Carrie drops her cell phone while a remake of the Eagles' "Forgiveness" plays with the opening lyrics "I got a call today, that I didn't wanna hear." Many are speculating that Carrie is dumped. However, I predict that Big does NOT leave Carrie at the alter. I think we've all seen Big's committment issues one too many times, and I think the writers know viewers would expect more than the same old Big won't committe to Carrie plotline. My guess - Big, who's health issues played a major role in Season 6, suffers a heart attack.
During some point in the movie, Carrie hires a personal assistant, Louise, played by Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson. We're unsure at this point if Louise is to assist with wedding plans or Carrie's life after the wedding dibacle, but Louise tells Carrie in her interview that she moved to New York "to fall in love."
By far the most shocking to me of this trailer is Miranda's storyline. In the signature pink writing, we see a flash that "some things end," straight to a heartbreaking clip of Miranda with tears in her eyes (coming from someone who disliked Miranda throughout the entire 6 seasons of SATC, it really is sad) as a puppy-faced Steve tells Miranda that "It only happened once." Could Steve really cheat on Miranda? On a lighter note, does anyone wonder what Steve and Miranda do about Brady's last name? Is he now Brady Brady or Brady Hobbes-Brady?
The pink writing then flashes that "some things begin" and we see Charlotte tell Carrie that she's pregnant and then flash to a 9 month pregnant Charlotte at what looks like her baby shower. No doubt there will be some conflict for the York-Goldenblatt's with a baby on the way and a newly adopted daughter.
Lastly, the pink writing flashes that "some things never change." Here we see Samantha, Kim Cattrall, lusting over a surfer on the beach. Her chemo must be over because her sex drive is very clearly back in the movie. While I suppose the writers had to go this way so the movie would mirror Samantha's traditional "character," her ending with Jerry "Smith" Jerrod, at the end of the series left us all thinking that Samantha had finally found the man for her. Smith is so loyal and loving, it's one man I would be really sad to see Samantha dump, unlike Samantha's other relationships with artist Maria and hotel mongel Richard Wright. Another rumor of Samantha's story line is that she moves her PR business to Los Angeles. There are telltale signs of a more tropical climate in most of the "Samantha" scenes in this trailer.
The remaining seconds don't contain much dialogue, but if you look very closely, there is a flash of Carrie in a second wedding dress which could suggest a make-up wedding for Carrie and Big.
One thing is for sure, there are very high expectations for this movie. The series finale of Sex and the City left all 4 women right where they needed to get to, and if the the movie is a let down, this viewer will never see the series in the same light.
