Sexy and pretty bridges

Bridges are sexy and pretty. Believe it? Most bridges have long and slender legs. Very sexy. Look at the curves on some bridges. Very pretty. The "make up" on bridges also can make one falls in love with them!

The above is just to catch your attention. People usually turn on once they see word such as sexy and pretty. But the word bridge will turn them off immediately. Who want to read about bridges. Read on, dont stop.

I am biased because I have been involved in making bridges for all of working life. I can spend hours admiring bridges but still confused me when people dont admire them.

When is the last time you really look at bridges? Never? Not surprising. People tend to take them for granted. There are there to provide access to vehicles among other things. People dont really look at them and appreciate them. People look at them only when they are on the news, when bridge collapsed or when some function being done on them.

Try to imagine that the bridge you use regularly would not be there tomorrow for one reason or another! How long would it take you to swim across a river to get to the other (if you actually can make it) compares to walk across the river using a bridge! During war, army usually spend most of their resources to take control of bridges. Remember the movies "Bridge over River Kwai", "A Bridge Too Far".

With the new technologies and knowledge, we in the construction line are building better, bigger, longer, taller, prettier bridges. Photos on the right are only few bridges that I have the opportunity to involve in during construction. Believe me, there are many other bridges throughout the world. Different in shapes, sizes, material used for different purposes.

Further down you would see photos of bridges during construction. The complication of building bridges varies. These photos showing only some of the complications so that one would appreciate bridges and subsequntly the people who build them.

No further explanation will be provided on the photos unless there are query on them. Just look at them and try to appreciate them. And nowadays, one can find through the net other photos related to bridges. Search and look at others and tell me whether it changes how you look at bridges.

So, next time when you past a bridge please try to really look at them. And when you are delay due to road closure at bridge construction site, please appreciate the difficulty of the construction team and show some respect and support.
