Head with Blue Shadow - Roy Lichtenstein

Shadows also had an important role in the paintings of the second half of the 20th century, when the triumph of Pop Art occurred, in the international artistic world of the sixties. Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein used the shadows as another element of the quotidian life in its artistic works, more dedicated to publicity.

Particularly Warhol has dedicated a complete series to the theme “Shadows”. In this work, the modern man and his shadow is the central theme of the composition.

Not only in Warhol, the shadowalso attracted the attention of other artists such as Ed Ruscha and Gerhard Richter. Also Tobia Ercolino invokes the shadows as an ethereal and poetic presence.

Nice hub! Great attention to this specific characteristic of pop art, used by Warhol and others - that I didn't really know so much about.

Cheers!
