My Goals With The Insanity Workout

I decided to start the Shaun T Insanity workout because it looked like a challenge and I have always wanted to incorporate more cardio workouts in my life, plus I need to lose some weight and get toned. So I took up the Insanity workout challenge. I will be doing this Shaun T workout for the next 60 days, I will also be following the nutrition guide as much as possible, so I can maximize my results and be pure in my review. I have Shakeology to help me, plus the P90x recovery drink to help my muscles recover from the workouts. I will not be drinking soda, anything with artificial flavoring, or anything other than water, shakeology or a recovery drink. I might have a small glass of non-fat milk from time to time.

I really do not have a set goal of how much weight I want to lose. I do weigh 206 pounds right now, and eventually I would like to get down to 185 pounds and toned. I really do not think that it is possible or healthy to lose that much weight in 60 days, but if I can lose 10 to 15 pounds, that would be great!

My nutritional guidelines are pretty simple, Insanity has a nutrition plan all laid out and ready for use. I have already done my shopping and am ready to go. I will only be having whole wheat breads, that includes regular sandwich bread, pita bread, and English muffins. I will have Oatmeal or Kashi Cereal, and maybe a shakeology drink. For meats, I will only have turkey, deli style roast beef, some chicken without skin, and lean steak. Fruits, vegetables and nuts will also be part of this diet. I actually hope to start living my life like this.

Week 1: Insanity Workout

I first want to start off by saying that I have done the P90x workout, and that was extremely tough, I however did not do the nutrition plan for that workout, but I should off, I still saw pretty good results.  After doing my first week of the Insanity workout, I have found that these two workouts are completely different.  I am actually havig a tougher time with Insanity then I did with P90x, mostly because there is SO much cardio and I am not used to that.  The last time I have done cardio like this was when I played football, and that was over 12 years ago.

My first day of the Insanity workout will be one that I will never forget.  I will try to do my best in explaining it.  The first day was the Dig Deeper Fit Test which is about 30 minutes long.  Like EVERY workout so far, you do a warm up section.  Each circuit is about 3 and a half minutes long.  You have no breaks in the warm up section, after you get done with the circuit you do it over again, but faster, and then after you get done with the 2nd circuit, you do it gain and even faster.  The whole warm up section is around 11 minutes of doing exercises as quickly as possible, I sweated like crazy in this section and was extremely tired.  After the "warm-ups", there is a section of stretching, which is nice because your body is warmed up and ready to stretch, plus your heart rate goes down during this time.

Then came the actual Fit Test, where you do 8 workouts for 1 minute each with 30 second breaks in between. Another thing, there are no set reps in the Insanity workout, you do as much as possible every exercise.  I was struggling right away, but I was still able to keep up and push through my workouts.  Probably around the 5th workout I started to feel a little queasy, but I still pushed through.  By the last workout I was in the bathroom PUKING!  It was a great feeling!  I have not puked from a workout in a long time.  Turns out my friend's wife who is also doing the insanity workout also puked during the fit test.

My second day was much better, however, I was sore...but I did not puke!! The 2nd day was the Plyometric cardio circuit, it is about 40 minutes long, but because of the warm ups and the stretching, you actually do not start the real workout until there is 23 minutes left in the workout.  Which is plenty of time for Shaun T to do some damage.  There was a lot of jumping and squats in this workout and even some football drills.  After the workout I just had to lay on the floor and do nothing, my body was exhausted.

I woke up the next morning even more sore than the day before.  But I got up and pushed myself to do the workout, it was seriously a struggle.  My calves and thighs were on fire, even my upper body was sore from doing the push up routines.  By the time the warm ups and the stretches were over my muscles started to feel better, then came the Cardio Power and Resistance workout.  There were more push ups, more squats, jumping, and sprinting.  This was a great workout for me to push through, it gave me a lot of confidence that I can actually do the Insanity Workout.  These workouts have been so tough even the people in the video have to take breaks and get water.

The next day my body was crying out for a break, and the next workout could not have come at a better time.  It was the Cardio Recovery, although it was not a piece of cake at all.  It did have a lot of stretching in it, with some moves that I recognized from Yoga.  After the workout my body felt great!

But I could not get to comfortable, because the next day was the Pure Cardio workout.  Once you get into the main workout of the disc, you have NO 30 SECOND BREAKS....ZERO.  You push your body as hard as possible for about 15 minutes straight.  I was dropping like a fly, but I was not the only one, people in the video were also dropping like flies.

Overall this first week has been a pretty huge shock to my body, the soreness is subsiding and I am starting to feel more energized throughout my day.

I have been doing insanity for 6 weeks. I still unfortunately drink NOS energy soda like every day. But I have lost an estimated 7-10 lbs. I am not weighing my self during becuase I want to wait until im done.

I have done 5 weeks and am now on day 4 of week 6. I am starting to see no love handles, muscles in my abs are showing. I started at (male, 28, 5'11", 213 lbs). I believe that I will get down to 190 or less with this program. I am going to do the second months workouts for 2 months before I weigh in. Then I am going to make my own program to reconfuse my muscles using what I learned from thisworkout.

I am not sure but I think the Asian girl in the video is dating Shaun T because he sure users her as a reference very often.

Anyways im so addicted to the workout that I am going to go and do one of them right now and its 1105pm on Thursday night.

Then tomorrow morning im going to run 2 miles and then tomorrow afternoon im going to do the Max Interval Plyo which is reportedly burning up to 900 calories if you can "Dig Deeper" haha.

Awesome program.

I just started the workout yesterday and I love it. I'm hurting so bad right now but I just can't wait to start again tomorrow! The stretches are great, I was a figure skater all through high school and I could have really used some of the techniques to loosen up after cardio back then. Haha and I thought the exact same thing about the Asian girl and Shaun being together

So far the insanity workout has been incredible. That is a pretty bold move to do the 2nd month twice in a row, but it sounds like a great idea.

I don't know about the Asian chick and Shaun T being together, they might be, but I know they did hip hop abs together too.

I started today I felt like throwing up but I laid on the floor in the fetal position for a good 20 mins. I used to wrestle and this is extremly tough. This is an awesome blog and I will be following. Don't give up!

(Male, 5' 7" 141 lbs) Just finished week 2 day 5. My calves were sore for pretty much the entire first week but have since felt a lot better. I'm really hoping the next 6 weeks allow my abs to show a lot more. I finished P90X in 90 days and gained 2 lbs and am now working on shedding the remainder of fat I have still stored around me mid section and lower back. I'll be jumping back into P90X in order to gain some mass after I've completed Insanity.

My eventual goal is to reach 150lbs with around 5-6% body fat. No small feat considering if I miss a day or two, I'm back to where I started. I try to eat about 3000-3500 calories a day so hopefully gaining some muscle wont be too hard from here on out.

And yeah that Asian girl is hot. Too bad she whooped me during the Fit test.

Does anyone post their fit test results? I'm starting INSANITY Friday (mainly because I need Thursdays as my off day). I'd love to see what other people are doing.

bottom line the workout is fantastic. Shaun T keeps you motivated. if you haven't taken a before picture, make sure to do it asap because your body will change over the course of the program.

It is very important to take a before picture, and keep on taking pictures during the Insanity workout, because once you see the change in your body, it will motivate you that much more.

It was great reading everyone's comments. At 5"1 112 lbs (female), I wasn't sure about my "mind over matter" on Day 1 because I sucked at the fitness test and felt a bit light-headed. I am glad to see that that isn't unusual.

I am just on Day2 now and still struggling but look forward to the workouts. I will take a before pic asap as a visual aid to my progress.

Only question I have is do you all find that you rest a lot or are you generally able to go through each day's work-out with minimal breaks?

My goal is to go back to my more toned 105-107 pounds and have washboard abs. I am currently not following the nutrition plan but will see if it is doable for me.

I am glad to read that other people's calves were sore for the first week and they got better. I have been working some of the Insanity workouts into my P90X and running regimen and man my calves are always sore after Insanity (less after having done the workout once but still sore). I am now going to do full on Insanity so was glad to read that the soreness dissipates. Has that been the experience with others?
