SheToldMe.com - New Social Bookmarking Site
76There is a new player in the world of social bookmarking. SheToldMe is a Digg-like network that lets you earn money through AdSense advertising. It is quite new so it remains to be seen if it can compete with Digg. It is becoming popular because of AdSense, but also because the site does not frown on members adding their own articles or sites. Most of the other sites would rather you post other’s sites rather than those you have a stake in.
At SheToldMe you add sites, you vote others sites/links up or down, and hopefully you earn some money from AdSense. You can also refer people to the site and will receive the income from one block of their Adsense Ads for as long as they have their account.
Joining up
To join SheToldMe click on LogIn on the top right hand of the front page. This will take you to a page that lets you choose between creating a new account, logging in, or requesting a new password. You choose a username, add your email address and confirm that address, you then choose a password and confirm that password, next your choose an avatar to represent you on the site, then you list the URL of your web site or blog you want people to know about, next they ask for your Google AdSense ID (the number without pub- or ca-pub-), next you are asked to type in a captcha code and then you submit. You will shortly receive an email asking you to confirm your email address. It is usually instantaneous but it can take a while, make sure you check your spam box to see if it was delivered there by mistake. You are given two weeks to reply to the email or your account will be deleted.

Submitting links
Click on “add a link/publish a story” in the right hand column on your account page. What you submit are called “scoops”. When you click on add a link you are taken to a page which asks for the URL, the title, a scoop (or summary), choose a category, and add some relevant tags for your submission. For the title and the summary “You must write a minimum of 10 characters for your title but no more than 100. Same with your description, it must be between 200 and 5000 characters.” I would suggest you type in an original summary rather than just posting a clip from your submission. You have the choice of previewing your scoop or can submit it.
The sites you submit must follow the rules set out by AdSense which includes no pornography; no racist or violent content; no excessive profanity; no gambling sites; no sites that sell drugs, alcohol, tobacco, weapons, and replica goods; and no sites that promote illegal activity. These are basically the same rules as every other site that relies on AdSense for income. When your site is submitted it shows up it is in the queued list and gets promoted to the front page after a certain number of votes. A screenshot of the site or article that you submitted appears next to your summary. Three AdSense blocks are placed around the summary. There is also a link for people to click on to comment on your submission.
Referrals
I briefly touched on referrals. Every account is given a referral code to promote the site amongst your friends, family and colleagues. When someone signs up to the service using your referral, you get one block of their three AdSense for as long as they have their account. The top referrers are listed on the right hand column of the front page.
Tools
SheToldMe gives you tools to help spread the word about the site and to refer people. You can add a bookmark tool to your browser to make it easier to submit pages to the site. You also have access to various website buttons to place on your own blog or website which contain your referral number. All of these are accessible from your account dashboard and the column which appears on the right-hand side of every page.
For now, SheToldMe seems like a good site. I have been a member for just over a week and haven’t earned anything or really gotten that many clicks. I definitely will give this site a good tryout and I hope that you will too. If you are interested, click on my referral link, or, if you prefer, just visit SheToldMe.Com and sign up.

A quick survey of Hitwise’s list of top UK online retailers shows that adoption of social media is patchy to say the least. The recent hype around Twitter and Facebook has clearly caught their attention with 69% and 50% respectively having a profile.

I just signed up under you. Thank you for the information about this site!
Thanks for a great money making hub, must try it. creativeone59
I have noticed that the hubs I have scooped are now getting a little extra traffic. Will keep scooping and let you know if it keeps up.
I got nine views from shetoldme for the first 5 hubs I scooped. Thanks UW for the referral! I'm starting to vote too. Hope we can get all the names of the hubbers who are in there so that we know who to look up and vote for.
I've joined and had a bit of extra traffic, so thanks for the info. Have been voting for other Hubs only!
Thanks for the comments. Glad you like the site. I only wish it was easier to add friends on the site so you could keep tabs on them. I can because you are all listed under my referrals :)
When does HeToldMe get launched?
Well, you know how we women do gossip ;)
True. It would be called HeRefusesToCommunicateWithMe.com
:)
Lol :)
Thanks for this hub UW. Gives more insight into SheToldMe. Joined under you a couple of days ago and i'm glad. Now i'm off soon to start scooping!LOL!
Thanks for sharing this information. I will be checking it out...8-)
Time will tell indeed, it's got a lot of catching up to do, but the Adsense angle will no doubt help (I actually got a click from here today).
Great find. =)
Whenever you speak, I listen, UW! Thanks for this great dig (lol) as it will sure come in handy. The only problem I have is not campaigning enough at my other social networking sites, as my "permanent address" is right here at good ole Hubpages! Thank you very much, UW. I'm sure you don't need me to tell you what an asset you are to the rest of us here!
Thank you, UW. You've only joined a week but you're one of the top referrers AND you have created a buzz here in HP! Way to go! :)
I already joined. so, sorry I couldn't signed under your referral link.
I'm still green getting started on HP. Something to keep in mind. Keep us updated on your satisfaction with the site.
I'm glad some of you are getting traffic to your hubs through the site. I haven't gotten any noticeable hits from there. I have had a few hits to my Triond articles.
Do you have another hub on the very basics, the premises, how/why to use these resources, of Digg, SheToldMe, etc?
Not me, I know there are several hubs about Digg and other social networks.
you are there top referred good one Susan! I needed somewhere to creat quick dofollow links - this seems a good option
cool, thanks for the info UW.!!

I just want to confirm is shetoldme.com Dofollow?
I don't know, maybe someone else reading this knows? I have no idea about dofollow or donotfollow links.
Just found out about this site this week. Certainly looks interesting.
I have joined this site and am still trying to figure out how i can get some votes for my content.
I registered 14 of my articles with this site following your recommendation and the subsequent thread about it.
I got no earnings at all, and hardly any extra traffic. So I asked them to delete all content and links to my articles.
One week later, if you search in Google the links are still there, with the same URL containing my articles titles, but now pointing to a page on their site which contains nothing but advertising.
So they are still making money off my content, which they no longer have permission to use. AND they somehow manage to get the links to their pages (supposedly pointing to my articles) above my pages which actually contain the original content). So now they are hurting my traffic as well. But why should they care? They are still making money, even if it is in a dubious and unauthorised fashion. Should I sue them?
BEWARE!
@sannyasinman - SHOCK!!HORROR!! you mean you actually didn't make thousands of dollars in no time with minimal effort? Shetoldme.com has been great for me, because of it's dofollow bookmarks. I get the occassional click for a dollar or so, which is a nice bonus, but what do you expect? Somebody to make you a millionaire for nothing? Seriously grow up!
I don't believe they are doing anything wrong. The owner of the site has been very forthright in the forums.
I know, and sannyasinman stated that he was going to complain about them to google adsense. This is the same man who just this second told somebody to 'Lighten up'!
