Resort Review Sheraton Hacienda del Mar
The following is David's professional opinion from a recent hotel inspection and client's feedback
Ambiance - I know, Sheraton does not always conjure up the images of a romantic resort but this property is simple gorgeous. The minute you walk into the reception area you look directly out to the ocean. The grounds have to rank up there as the most beautiful in all of Los Cabos. Sheraton can be proud this resort carries the Sheraton name.
Beach - The beach is a bit smaller and as with most resorts along the corridor, the ocean is not swim able.
Charges (extra) - This is an EP (European Plan) resort so any ancillary charges outside of the room would be extra.
Distances - This is located in what is known as the corridor between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. It would be a hefty taxi ride into Cabo San Lucas so plan accordingly.
Entertainment on Property - They have bands playing jazz and contemporary music nightly.
Fitness Area - A great fitness center with treadmills, weight machines and free weights.
Food - The are 4 restaurants, and Pitahayas is considered one of the top restaurants in all of Los Cabos featuring Pacific Rim cuisine and a fantastic view overlooking the ocean. People staying at other resorts make it a point to dine here.
Getting Around - Taxi is the operative word.
Internet Access -Unlike most of the resorts in Mexico that offer internet access from a small business center charging by the hour, you can get Wi-fi internet access from your room with one charge for a 24 hour period. So if you have to be connected while on vacation, this is another plus for this resort.
Jackets and Ties - Keep them at home, but bring slacks and polo shirt for the fine dining restaurants.
Kids -They do have a children's program for kids ages 5 to 12 and offer babysitting.
Lighting -The resort is well laid out and well lit at night. In fact one of the prettiest resorts in the evening.
Medical Services -On site medical services from 9am to 5pm. Other times they are on call.
Negatives - As with most resorts in Los Cabos, the undertow in is too strong for swimming in the ocean. This is not a big deal with me since I do my dunking in the pool. They have not invented a ocean swim up bar so what's the point!
Nightlife - Music is played nightly at the resort and plenty of nightlife in Cabo San Lucas.
Opportunities -They have a beautiful gazebo for weddings so this makes a perfect place for a destination wedding.
Pool - For people who know me or have read my reviews of resorts in the past I am a pool person and I would be perfectly content here. They have all the right ingredients, pools with waterfalls, an infinity pool, swim up bar pool and two separate pools for the kids. You just can't get better than this.
Protection - In room safe at no additional charge .
Recreation - Unlike the all-inclusive's that bundle in many activities, this property features rest and relaxation. My favorite activities! The El Dorado Golf course is right next door and Los Cabos is known for its world class deep sea fishing.
Rooms - The rooms here are fantastic. The standard rooms are oversized compared to what you would normally see in Mexico, all with jacuzzis. And here is the good part, since Sheraton is part of the Starwood family which includes Westin Hotels, can you say Heavenly Bed? Sheraton calls it the Sweet Sleeper Bed but most people know the Heavenly Bed brand. pssst, a little secret, I suspect they are the same. NO sleeping on a hard bed here.
Shopping - Small gift shop on property and plenty of shopping in Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo.
Terrain -This property is very hilly and might not be conducive for those who have trouble walking.
Tipping-Tipping is at your discretion.
Updates-This is part of the Starwood Spa collection so take advantage of the wonderful spa facilities.
View- Simply breathtaking. Do yourself a favor and get a room with a view of the ocean.
Weather--December through May are the driest months. September through November are the wettest months. But when I mean wet, it is nothing since they Los Cabos sits beside a desert. This is a great choice during the summer, hot and dry.
WOW Factor-I have to say the combination of the grounds, the rooms and the views make this resort stand out from the rest.
X-Y-Z-If an all inclusive is not a good fit for you, this is a fantastic resort.
