Shiny, Straight and Deadly: Secrets to Perfect Hair

Obviously We're Talking About Hair

So I am a hard core shine addict. Seriously. My hair is straight as a pin and fine as hell, so i can't curl it, volumize it, coiff it or anything else. My one weapon? Play up the straight and the shiny. Without, of course, crossing the border into the nastiness of oily hair (which, fine hair sufferers will know, shows muuuch faster than you thick haired beauties).

I have tried more products that I will admit (unless under subpeona--unlikely, but hey, hair care was an integral part of Legally Blonde). I have tried shine serums, gloss boosters, blow dry protection, leave in conditioner, volumizing mousse, gel, and root spray, and more leave in treatments in brightly colored bottles than should be humanly or financially possible.

So here is my regimen for shiny, glossy, super soft, ultra touchable, gotta toss it over your shoulder summer hair.

In the Shower

I think the Vive Pro line is pretty much top notch. It's in a great price bracket, it's really effective and it targets various hair issues--personally they score big points with me because they were the first product to target shine boosting for fine hair.

This line is called Glossy Volume (dark pink bottle, shampoo and conditioner), but I also highly recommend their color care line (orange bottle) especially because part of this line is a three minute leave in conditioner that super hydrates without weighing down, a must must must for the summer!

And then my ultimate secret weapon, more important than all other things combined, is John Frieda Hair Glaze. Now I'm a blonde so I use the blonde one, obviously, but they have two shades of blonde, a brunette and a redhead. They also have a clear glaze, for those of you in between.

I can hardly believe how much this stuff improves shine, manageability, and overall gorgeousness. It punches my hair up to the wow factor, and for a girl who has a soft spot for shiny hair, this hits all the right notes. Giggity giggity.

It takes three minutes to apply in the shower, and the smell isn't Herbal Essences, but it isn't terrible. Just try it--it's well worth the ten bucks you pay for it because you get about 20-30 applications from it (and this from a girl with long hair) and you don't need to use it everyday.

Styling

Because fine hair tangles really easily, I need a leave in conditioner, and for this I haven't really had a bad experience, as long as they're labeled "light" and you apply on damp hair. I've tried Humectress Luxe (I got it on sale, I feel this one is very good but expensive) Aussie Hair Insurance Leave In Conditioner (best smell and best value, my personal fave) and many others including kids conditioners, which are cheap and usually smell like fruit. Hydration and conditioning is essential to shiny, manageable hair.

Sometimes if I want it to last longer, I'll rub a little mousse--very little--into the crown and blowdry, but usually I'll blowdry upside down and spray hairspray onto the brush, then brush my hair. This gives less of the sticky, crunchiness but still all the hold you would expect from the hairspray--it also apparently helps smooth the strands rather than fray them, yielding--you guessed it--shinier hair, root to tip. I recommend a lower hold for finer hair.

Finally, my biggest secret, my crowning glory, the product that makes my hair smell like cotton candy and shine like the Chrystler building at sunrise, Kenra Silkening Mist. This carries a hefty price tag, but I'm not kidding, there is nothing I wouldn't pay for this product. It's very fine and light, and it makes my hair feel like silk and shine like you wouldn't believe.

Thats it! You have all my secrets, so go out and conquer summer hair!
