Shoes; The Obsession
73Why are women so obsessed with shoes?
To begin this post with a little educational - A shoe is an item of footwear evolved at first to protect the human foot and later, additionally, as an item of decoration in itself. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoe)
So the question remains - why do we all seem to love them? Maybe this is a generalization, but I know that I can say with confidence that I am an addict and I know that at least 90% of my female friends and counterparts will come to the meetings with me.
My other half always asks, “Do you really need another pair of black stilettos?” my answer is always. “Yes”. I guess men will just never understand how many different types of black stiletto’s there are and it is absolutely necessary that I have them all! And even if I don’t need them – I want them!
So I’ve narrowed it down a little, please feel free to share your shoe obsessions and stories and together we can praise those many designers that make our lives beautiful.
1. Shoes can make or break an outfit. They can make a casual outfit look smart and a smart outfit look fantastic. Used correctly, shoes can enhance any look and put the final touch on the masterpiece of the day.
2. The right pair of shoes also adds to our personal appearance. High heels elongate the leg, thereby giving you better posture, a better walking stride (with practice) and of course make our butts look great.
3. A great pair of shoes makes us feel good about ourselves. Tottering in 6 inch sky scrapers. Feeling the heads turn. Knowing that your old jeans have suddenly become the best outfit you’ve ever come up with. The feeling of self confidence and raised self-esteem is a huge reason for girls across the globe to wear heels.
4. Your shoe size never changes, so when we are having a "fat day" where nothing fits the way we want it too and our jeans are tighter than they were last week, shoes always fit. Now that’s a true friend.
5. Our obsessive nature towards shoes could also stem from hundreds of years back when people were identified by the shoes they wore. The more elaborate the shoes were the higher the income was of person wearing them. Slaves and peasants went barefoot when royalty and nobility would wear shoes bedecked in jewels. These people of high standings would of course not be seen wearing the same pair of shoes to two different social affairs – so why should we?
6. The choice is endless! Platforms, wedges, stilettos, kitten heels, pumps, mules, Mary Janes, slingbacks, espadrilles, Strappies, pointies, round toes, peep toes, open toes, Gladiators. The possibilities are limitless, and new variations are being developed every day – woo hoo!
7. Shoes are works of art. . Forget that they are a fashion item. Regard heels as a piece of art – and a number of mine really are! Not always practical or comfortable, they often are bought just for their look. See Queen in Heels for some great shoe art (literally)!
Those that know me know I love my shoes - after all, I do own enough pairs to shoe the feet of a small nation – as long as they don’t mind walking around in dangerously high blister inducing heels!
