Shopping the Chinese Way
51During a boring day about a week ago, I went walking around the city in search of an adventure of any kind. Then I had a bright idea. Why not go to Chinatown and find good bargains for stuff I might need; and I did so without hesitation. In less than an hour, I was under the Chinese style arc that marked the entrance of Chinatown – and every shop in that place was under the mercy of my curious mind.
Being in a place like that wasn’t really new to me as my lineage is predominantly Asian. What was strange though was the aromatic charm of Chinese food in restaurants around the place. I knew the Chinese love eating healthy food, and since I have been on a healthy diet the past few months, I decided to try some Chinese food before visiting other shops.
Things in Chinatown are so cheap you would imagine how businessmen in here gain profit. I then remembered what a friend told me about Chinese merchants. What they’re after of is a large amount of sales with consistent profit – that way customers always frequent the place, plus their stocks don’t stay stagnant.
The first thing you would notice in this place are the large message flags that decorate the whole vicinity. While some of them are seasonal, like the Happy New Year flags that were left untouched after the Chinese New Year celebrations, there are the more common flags you would expect from a business hub. There are flags that indicate a sale, new arrivals, and other advertising strategies to attract more customers. And those banners never disappoint – when you go in a shop, new stocks that come in cheap prices greet you. Too bad I haven’t prepared enough money for a lot of purchases. But I’ll be back sooner than expected though. The next time around, I’ll shop a lot.
