Shorse ilish - perfect dish from the Bengalis

As a pur bengali guy one of my favourite non veg dish is shorshe ilish.Shorshe is nothing but mustard and the fish ilish is called or well known in english by the name hilsa. The main ingredients of shorshe ilish are --

1. Grounded Mustard .2.Mustard oil . 3.Chilli powder 4.Green and red chilli 5.Turmeric powder.6.salt to taste 7.Hilsa fish 8.Chopped Onions.

Working procedure -- First of all the mustard , green and the red chillies should be made into paste in a mixture machine.Marenate the pieces of ilish fish with turmeric and salt. Now in the frying pan just keep the mustard oil and fry the onion in a low steam. After that put all the mixture in the pan and keep the fish pieces also with all the masalas.Add sufficient amount of water . After that just close the pan with a lid and keep the heat in a low steam for few minutes until the water gets vaporized and the fish pieces also gets sufficiently boiled. While serving just add few drops of mustard oil and you can even use coriander leaves also for garnishing.

Thanks for the recipe, I like the sound of it. Should I try it with some other fish? I do not know of this fish in Australia.

Yes u can try but make the fish fry, in ilish fish no need of frying too much.Actually in ur country u get fish of salty water and the fish i am talking about is found in place where both salty and sweet water mixes together.
