It can be difficult to develop a bedtime story that makes sense when you're put on the spot as your tucking your little one in. I couldn't think of a descent story if my life depended on it...I was tired, too. But I found ideas popping into my head as I would drive to work. Too late, right? NO! Grab a note pad at a stop light & jot down a character or one word idea that you'll remember later. When you have a moment (after exiting your car) jot down more details. When you gain access to a computer, type out a short story. You only need around 20-30 lines which contain a beginning (Introduce your characters but not too many), a short adventure (make it pleasant) and an ending (character learns or accomplishes something). Remember that you child will be looking for excitement and anticipation, much of which will be in your tone of voice when reading it. Don't worry that you aren't very creative you will be surprised at what you can come up with. Print it out and put it in a bedtime folder.
