Short Hairstyles for Women Soldiers

Women who work in a man’s world like the military service have to wear short hairstyles. They may be influenced by all the men around them in the work place. Women are a small minority in a military unit and they could unnecessarily feel out of place if they have the usual long hair typical of non-service women. 

A woman’s long hair anyway is quite tedious to maintain – washing and drying her long hair can take her so much time. That does not happen to be the case with life in the army – a soldier, male or female, must do things fast most of the time, if not all the time. So a woman in a military unit cannot afford to take long hours just taking care of her hair, otherwise she can get the ire of her superiors. 

It is hard to imagine seeing female soldiers with long flowing hair; you always see them with short hairstyles. Their military commanders, most likely males, will perhaps chide them for long hair as unmilitary, not soldier like, undisciplined, and so on, with the military lingo peculiar to the army. 

A woman soldier certainly does not want to go through that kind of tirade in front of her fellow soldiers, but for the most part short hair is compulsory before appearing in the ranks.

Why do women join the army? Well, why not – this is a free country, and nobody can stop her from doing so of she qualifies for the job. The army now is not just all shooting and killing as what is traditionally known about it. The organization now is quite complex, that there are many tasks in an army unit that a woman can better do than a man.

The records for example in the army, are all kept in computers now which may be maintained better by patient and fastidious female soldiers with their short hairstyles, rather than by male soldiers who may do better jobs in the frontlines, so to speak. 

Or women can be good helicopter pilots in an army unit especially for those duties of helicopters delivering combat troops quickly to far off patrol locations otherwise inaccessible by other means. The skills of women pilots could be enviable as they are usually cool, seated in the pilot’s seat calmly discharging her load of a combat patrol like a mother hen overseeing her chicks. The enemy anyway will have no way of seeing that the pilot of a chopper is a woman – she has that short hair style – aside firm the fact that her head is all covered with that crash helmet.

The important thing for a woman soldier to do is prove to the men that she can be one of them, not because she has a short hairstyle, but because she can always measure up and always do a soldier’s job anytime, anywhere.
