Should Corporations have the same rights as citizens?
70We need more checks and balances not corporate controle.
We live under a political system where power is divided between True Power, Apparent power & Reactive Power. These three forms of powers can be referred to as the power triangle. Under such system, anyone who said to have apparent power must have demonstrated the ability to have caused the public to react. And these folks usually hold some sort of leadership position in our society.
These people are members of congress & the president. They can be found at the legislative, judicial, and executive branch of our government. The public depends on these distinguish gentlemen to carry out our demands. However, these gentlemen are sometime influenced by True Power, causing them to disregard the interest of the public for personal gain. We the people hold the legislative branch of our government liable for any result that intercepts public demands, for they're the branch responsible for government accountability.
True Power can be defined as corporate influenced; those corporations that possess TP are known to exercise their power through the process of lobbying. They are considered Tue Power mainly because of their large capital flow and their political influenced. Due to their large capital flow, they can draw a great amount influence. Depending on the amount of capital they have invested within the field of society, dictates the force of their True Power.
Although corporations are the main contributors to our economic survival, their interest should not come before that of the public. They do play an important role in our society, because without them, they'll be no need for government. They're the power source that keeps society alive.
As a society, it is always refreshing to remember that government derived from corporations. Government is there to protect corporate interest to a certain extent, because without a growing economy, we the public will encounter catastrophic circumstances. Thus, it is undoubtedly important for Apparent Power (AP) which are members of the three branches of government, among which includes specifically, congressmen and the president.
Although it is understood by us that the interest of corporation must be protected so that our economy can continue to prosper, it should not be in our leader's interest to place all corporations’ rights before our citizens. One of our most important concerns is that it isn't in our interest to have corporations select who our next president should be. We are completely against that notion; we the people do not want corporations to have any types of influence over our presidential candidates. It should be the people's choice to select their president, so that the Electoral College can vote accordingly.
Since we do not operate under a direct democracy, it is the Electoral College who has the power to choose who the next president will be. However, we rather have it that way than to have corporation choose for us. If corporations where to become an individual with all the civil rights as our citizens, it would be reasonable to think that they'll choose a president that support their business practice rather than a president that the people wants. And since corporation’s pockets are deep, their influence will also reflect that deepness. Corporations have too much power as it is to be considered individuals. If that were to become the case, it may become very difficult to regulate the business practice of some corporations.
In the history of America this has never been the case. On the contrary, our history has proved that corporations rights were more restricted due to lack of trust. Now, it seem as though the game has changed direction through this process of laissez-fair capitalist ideology. It is now all about profit, profit, profit - meanwhile our American citizens are working harder and are becoming more in debt.
Now, we the people can be referred to as Reactive Power, because when things do not go our way, we react. That's what we represent; we are the resistance that prevents Tue Power from completely influence Apparent Power. As a matter fact in order for members of our government to have had AP, we the people must continue to closely monitor Tue Power. If TP is the current which dissipate within the circuitry field of our society, than we the people represent the resistant that drops the reactant force of the current from completely magnetizing Apparent Power.
Without the strengths of our RP, the means of production of TP is achieved through their forceful provocation. We must continue to pressure members of congress & the president so that corporations play the game fair, otherwise they'll continue to walk all over us. For example, we the people can pressure Barack Obama NOT to support destructive policies such as the “Card Check” scheme that will subject workers to union intimidation and retaliation should they fail to say yes to join a union. The above mentioned from the legal defense foundation is the power of actions, our ability to react as a society in order to protect our lively-hood is now known as Reactive Power.
I'm sure those of us (RP) who are well informed must have heard Corporations wants to claim their independence. By that I mean they want the same civil rights as a regular citizen. They want the right to free speech, the right to own property and the right to lobby government officials. Now, what we asked of the citizens of this country (RP) is that - do you want your government to give those rights to corporation? This is where we play our parts as Reactive Power. We the people have what I've described as Reactive Power, which mean together we have the power to resist TP's effort to gain total control of our government.
They already have big influence on members of congress (AP) – they pretty much control our political system. Now if we were to give corporations the ability to lobby government officials, it would completely destroy the process of checks and balances that the forefathers work hard to keep in place. It is urgent that we react to this proposition and restrict it from becoming a reality. At the same time, let it be known that we actually like some of our corporations. However, if they were to claim their independence as individuals, it would have affected our lives. We do not know completely what the outcome will bring, but we know as citizens we would lose our Reactive Power.
We are afraid of the possibilities, and because of that we reject this idea. We want check and balances, our government must have some types of control through Apparent Power (AP). We're afraid that if corporations are allowed to have the same rights as our citizens, they will inturn buyout all members of congress. This is not to say all members of congress could be bought, but allowing corporation to influence members of congress to that extent, would welcome more temptations. We the people wants to keep our Reactive Power. This power allows us the citizens of this country to elect and influence members of congress to pass laws that benefit us. Any attempt for corporations to have the same rights as you and I, is an attempt to strip us from our Reactive Power.

Hi! Loua
I know what you mean Loua but we do not operate under a direct democracy. At least it is up to the electoral college to decide. However, if corporations were to become individuals with all our rights, it's possible that they could have influence them easier. We know that corporations do influence some member of congress but it's a little harder under our current laws. WE want to keep it that way. The more Reactive Power our citizens have, the better off we are.
Hi! creativeone
thanks for your comments - we can only make a difference if we try by doubting ourselves, we're setting up for failure.
Hi Coolbreezing It has been awhile ! I am sad to say that Corporations and multinationals already run our Government . Because most of the campaign contributions and gifts a candidate recieves Is through the Corporations lobby
And nowadays a congressperson or Senator seems to put the welfare of Big Money over the Interest of a officials constituency .That I also think Is part of the anger that Is playing from the citizens that you see on the news these days . I hope the officials are getting nervous . I am tired of their arrogance ! But good stuff Coolbreezing !
Thanks Tony - yeah it's been awhile - I've been a little occupied.
The planning out of civilization cannot and should not be the perogative of corporations alone.I wrote a hub on the subject of corporations and their alledged rights as living persons which they can never be despite what the judicial system says.
Corporations were created by people.People were not created by corporations. At least not without perpetrating some kind of fraud on the people.

I think we already lost that battle when they designed the electoral college to supersede public votes...
