"Progress reports arriving. The farms of Aerilon are burning. The beaches of Canceron are burning. The plains of Leonis are burning. The jungles of Scorpia are burning. The pastures of Tauron are burning. The harbors of Picon are burning. The cities of Caprica are burning. The oceans of Aquaria are burning. The courthouses of Libran are burning. The forests of Virgon are burning. The Colonies of Man lie trampled at our feet. " - Cylon hybrid
I am huge fan of Battlestar Galactica the new series. I am particularly in love with a cylon named Sharon Valerie a.k.a Boomer. I've watched all seasons except the last 5 episodes of Season 4. I'm reserving them for the rainy days. For now I'm contented to watch "Caprica". But a couple of days ago, I received a package from a friend in Manila. Watch this or you miss half of you life. The DVD I received had no marking or whatsoever so I really had no idea what it was.
Boy was I suprised to see the new mini movie based on Battlestar Galactica. Well I don't know if you can call a two hour show a mini movie. "The Plan" was supposed to be released next year. I really don't know how it turned up in my mail. But I'm not complaining. Piracy or no piracy. It will still be the same show. Oh I forgot the simple message my friend left on the package flap: Piracy is the revenge of the third world. Ahahahahahahahahaha!!!
So is the movie any good? Almost but lacking. Why? Here's why?
What makes it good is that it gives Battlestar Galactica fans a view or call it insight of the entire saga from the viewpoint of the Cylons. Specifically, it is about the manipulations done by two Cylon Model No. 1's a.k.a John Cavil to finish the failed job of exterminating humanity. One Cavil was on board the Battlestar Galactica as a priest and another on the cylon occupied Caprica also as a priest of a resistance movement. These Cavil's (Cylon Model No. 1) convince the other cylon models to do things to make up for the botched extermination of mankind. Unfortunately, these other cylon models have become more human than the Cavils anticipated and in their own way contributed to the failure of the model No. 1.
The movie uses footage from the other season but also used fresh scenes that BSG fans will surely devour again and again. I did. There are space shots, lots of nuke attacks and a view of how the destruction occured on the twelve planets. There are also scenes of nudity. Great scenes actually. Artfully done. Ahahahaha!!!As if it matters.
But as much as I like this movie. It was lacking in the sense that it wasn't really needed. The cylon "The Plan" can be deduced from all the four seasons. It was in the dialogues, the scenes... all implied into the nature of the Cylon's plan. Well they are that obvious to me... to those who have not watched the new BSG series better get them. You won't be disappointed.
Here's where you can get them.

I really liked The Plan (LOVED the ending theme), but without being a BSG fan, I think you'd be kinda lost.
I really wish they could take The Plan scenes, work them into the story and release a complete BSG series.
Kinda like a directors cut with deleted scenes put back in.
