Should you Invest in Web Marketing Concepts? - My Review - My Experience with Generating Traffic to my Website

I am a fairly novice website owner. I have been toying with websites for about a year and a half now and have learned everything I know the hard way. I am a fairly quick learner but I started off knowing nothing about websites. I have come a long way in the past 18 months. I am by no means an expert and although I am generating income I have a long way to go before I would call myself a successful website owner. I own a lingerie website store, a weight loss blog and a bargains blog. I am working my websites almost full time now and realize I have a lot to learn/do to generate the kind of income I know I can make.

I heard about Web Marketing Concepts from Mike - Cool Site of the Day owner - who featured my bargains website in November 2007. He offered his help in getting me set up. The talk with him gave me the direction and understanding I needed to begin. Otherwise I would have been lost for sure.

So I took the plung and decided to invest in Web Marketing Concepts. The fee is about $30 a month or you can pay $300 for the year and save $60. I signed up for the year on March 13, 2008. Since then I have been working hard to use the tools to generate more traffic to my lingerie store, to generate some affiliate money and to test the site to see if I want to use it for my other sites and possible ventures. In this Hub I will keep you updated on my progress and give you my evaluation of the system as I work through it. I will also provide you with instruction on how to use the system easily. Currently one weakness with the system is the lack of meaningful general information and explanation. There are many videos that explain things in entry level detail but it lacks and overall explanation on how to go through the process. I will attempt to close the loose ends and give the general instruction that the website lacks. I believe from the honesty and the information that is readily available that this is a truly powerful system. My first comment is I don't know how you can do all of the work in 2 hours - figuring out your design and finding 5,500 keywords takes time - I would say a few days at least!

UPDATE JUNE 2008 - Now you are advised to approach the process very slowly and DO NOT generate all 5,500 pages at once. You now feed your keywords in very slowly so that you are not flagged by Google..

The first step is to sign up. I decided to make a year's commitment and also save the $60. They say the fees will go up. I hope not too soon as I plan to sign up my other website and another affiliate generator site - I just want to watch the progress first.

Once you sign up - you will see a lot of links that mean nothing to you. I was totally confused and started to just use the Link Generator Tool and thought that was all there was or all I could use since I already had a domain and website. I was WRONG!

1. Buy a new domain name that is keyword rich - don't worry about the .net or .com - and host it with them for free.
2. Decide what you want the focus of your website to be. Keep in mind that you will have to select 10 subdomains and 11 affiliate (could be sites you own) links to each as well as 500 keywords for each!
3. Use a keyword in your 10 subdomains that describe that portion in one word. All 10 subdomains and the main domain should be related. You will be asked to provide an affiliate link (a website address) for each. I created 10 then changed them about 5 times later. Now we are told to add the subdomain keywords much later so you have time to think about this.
4. Follow his instruction / videos for setting up your account. This is all very easy for current website owners.
5. Pick 500 keywords for each subdomain and the main domain. (This is the fun part and where you may rethink the subdomains you selected.) In the beginning you will only need 50-75 keywords for the main domain. The rest will be added in time.
6. Add each in the Affiliate Content Generator.
7. Start with the main domain first. (I thought the subdomains would fill in automatically here but you have to enter them after you enter your main domain with the website link (affiliate or your own), the Title and keywords.
8. The instructions after this are easy. He has videos that clearly explain the process.
9. Basically - it generator search engine friendly pages for each of your keywords. It generates a sitemap and rss feed for each subdomain. All of the subdomains link to each other for excellent search engine optimization. Something it would take a human a long time to do on their own.
10. All pages generate a link to the website you list in each subdomain.
11. You then add your website and sitemap to Google Webtools so that you register your sitemap with Google and it knows to look for it. He has a video on this as well.
12. You also want to follow the instuctions to generate your links page. Select the categories that pertain to your website and they will find reciprical links that correspond and automatically populate them for you. (I thought that was all there was to the site and was willing to pay $30/month for just that service!)

In simply terms after I have done this for the second time - Here are the instructions. If you decide to sign up from the links on this site - I will help you set up your WMC account.

1. Buy a domain name - the cheapest option is to buy from GoDaddy using a valid coupon code. These change all of the time - so do a search in Google for GoDaddy coupon code for the latest. If you don't want the extra step - buy your new web domain from WMC - saves you from having to map it.

2. Change the server in GoDaddy for your new domain to:

NS1.WEB-MARKETING-CONCEPTS.COM (add 3 more for NS2..., NS3, NS4) (they will give you instructions for all of this when you set up your hosting account)

3. Follow the instructions after you submit your payment to WMC on establishing your web hosting account.

4. Log in to your WMC account and fill in your Website Information. Be sure to use a good description as this is what shows up on your links pages.

5. Select 10 or so link categories. The categories you select should be relevant to the theme of your website

6. Add your FTP info that you created when setting up your hosting account.

7. Log into your cpanel with www.yourdomain.net/cpanel and edit the links_template.html in the html directory - put your affiliate id (login id) in the 2 links. Also fix the word "automaticly" to "automatically". It has a spelling error on the page!

8. In the cgi-bin folder - wmcvalues.pl - put in your affiliate link as it says

9. Generate your links pages in your WMC account. You can now view your links page - http://www.yourdomain.com/links.html. Check and make sure the affiliate links have your wmc id.

10. Go into your WMC account - Affiliate Generator and add your main domain and 50 - 75 (use odd number) of keywords

11. Generate pages and transfer files.

12. Generate sitemap

13. Add the sitemap and domain to google.com/webmastertools (there is a video on this if you do not have a google account).

14. After site is indexed - add more pages/subdomains slowly. Every 3-4 weeks. My site was indexed in a few days and have about 30 pages in about 8 days.

15. You do not have to generate sitemaps for subdomains

16. Subscribe to your own feeds and submit them to rss directories. Open domains and subdomains - click the rss icon on your computer and subscribe to your feeds.

Well I only just started March 13, 2008.

UPDATE JUNE 2008: I had to start my sites over again - only cost was buying a 2 new domain names - and having to wait. Changes were made in Google causing them to change from php to html pages and they also advised us NOT to generate all 5500 pages at once - which I did. After Google changed their algorhythym - my site was sandboxed (no pages in Google). We thought they would eventually come back and I guess they would - but it was much easier to start fresh rather than wait 6 months. I waited about a month and nothing. You can even see that Google doesn't send robots to your site anymore. My sites were still in Yahoo but I wanted to be in Google.

Like I said earlier WMC does a good job of explaining all of the details and the videos are very elementary so that the novice can understand. I had to be patient and not skip forward as that messes the video up - so just watch and try to be patient as he explains the same thing over and over again.

WMC lacks an overall explanation of what you are supposed to do. There is no direction there...just links and videos and you are supposed to put two and two together. This HUB is designed to fill in the gaps...

Today is March 26th and I have 2 subdomains left to configure. Like I said earlier I started on the wrong foot for about 5 days just setting up the Link Generator Page and not understanding the Affiliate Content Generator. Mike straightened me out and with his explanation I had to think of a strategy. That took a few days. I had to figure out what my new domain name would be, what the subdomains would be and if I would link all of them to my lingerie store or find other affiliates. That took some planning and thought. I then watched a lot of his videos and had to piece it all together. There is a lot of information and ebooks and videos on that site. I have a lot more ground to cover. The most time consuming part of this project is selecting the keywords. You can select up to 500 for each subdomain and the main domain - that is 5,500 keywords! That took me a long time. Even with *software tool (no monthly charge!) that helps you find keywords* - it still takes a while. There is no way I was going to mess around with Google Adwords Keyword Generator or Overture (which doesn't work half of the time) - so I had to buy keyword software (it does alot of other valuable things as well).

In the C-Panel of the hosting site for my new domain (hosted for free with WMC) I can see my traffic statistics for each subdomain. Most of my pages are only about 1-5 days old....so I have to give it more time. He shows us an example of his test site which is about 60 days old and it is being indexed, being found through thousands of keywords (I can't make this happen for my site that is 6 months old!) and is generating impressive traffic and affiliate money! I am looking forwarding to sharing with you my progress. I have 2 subdomains left to create then I will be done and can simply watch for results!

So far I feel good about my decision to go with WMC and their affiliate content generator. I learned a lot and find a lot of value in the tools that they offer (aside from the affiliate content generator). They have a conference call tomorrow night and I hope to learn more. I will continue to update you on my progress... In the meantime - so far anyway - I recommend Web Marketing Concepts and am excited to see my results!

Udate March 29th:

I finished all 10 subdomains and the hunt to find around 500 keywords for each. They are all linked to my site or affiliate sites. Now I am to wait. He says 60 -90 days. I see the search engines spidering (in my web stats) my sites. I am not being found for key words yet and there is minimal traffic. It has only been about 7 days since I entered my main domain. I listened to their archived conference call and it was very helpful. They have many resources to get your questions answered. The owners seem very confident and excited about their system and most importantly - don't seem like salesy type people at all.

Now that I finished with site number one - www.intimate-lingerie.biz with WMC (completed at the end of March) - I am to sit and watch the progress. They tell you to give it 60 to 90 days. In the past week I decided to start another site www.shop-for-bargains.com. I just finished with the 10 subdomain on this site yesterday. I am noticing that this site is getting indexed much faster than the first one. It is already being found by keywords and the google robots are all over it.

I was excited to see the update on the main page of the lingerie WMC site. I have ranking in google on some interesting search terms. I can't say I have ever seen this progress on my sites without WMC. It took months and months for me to see my pages even indexed let alone searchable on keywords (obscure as they may be). I am still waiting for a site I developed in November to be found under keyword search terms!

The new WMC site - www.shop-for-bargains.com - was first entered on 4/3/08. Today it has 10 pages indexed by google!

Well - apparently Google had a major overhaul in the way it ranks websites - so WMC had to do major changes in the way they process their pages. They changed the pages to html from php as well as made other internal improvements. The pages of my websites had to be regenerated (simple process). Google was then searching for pages (php) and getting 404 not found errors. My websites then disappeared from Google's index. I was waiting for it to reappear. On the conference call (every 2 weeks) - they concluded that the older sites (ones generated before their system change) had to be redone. All this involved was me purchasing different domain names and starting again.

IMPORTANT: This time they told us not to generate the 5500 pages too quickly (which is what I did the first time). Rather - we were instructed to only put in 50-75 keywords in the main domain and then only add new keywords when you see Google start to index your site. Also - we were instructed to only submit sitemaps for our main domains and not the 10 subdomains. As Google will find all of the subdomains once they get the main domains sitemap.

I redid my sites (2) on Friday the 23rd and see that Google is sending their robots 100+ which means I should be indexed shortly. The stats on my old sites were not promising - I had a bunch of 404 errors and very little robot activity. I was, however, listed on yahoo and msn - some 12-15 pages but my goal is to rank on Google - so I didn't feel bad about starting over. Apparently the newer sites that came in after the changes are doing well.

They also now have new ebay sites which I am not using at the moment. The price is still only $30 a month or $300 a year and they told us they would lock in that price if we want to buy more accounts in the future.

A few days have past and both sites are already in Google's index. One site has 21 pages indexed and the other 9. I have only added 81 keywords on one site and 61 on the other. We are advised to add keywords and subdomains slowly to improve rankings and reduce the risk of the Google Sandbox! So - I will add more keywords in 3-4 weeks and start adding subdomains in another 3-4 weeks. So far so good....

Both sites are now indexed in Google. You can see by putting the following in Google Search:

site:www.best-price-bargains.com (35 pages indexed)

The robots are on the sites heavily and now I see yahoo showing up.

It is good to be back in the game... (I don't know how this could be related but there is a definite jump in traffic and sales on my sites... I am not complaining - hope this is just the beginning!!)

My sites are indexing strongly in Google and the robot have now started with Yahoo and MSN. One site has 49 pages indexed and the other 29. I now have added a subdomain for the sexy-in-lingerie.net site with 50+ keywords. I will wait a bit on the other site. I am noticing that I am starting to rank for some obscure search terms but nothing too exciting yet.

Both sites now have 60 pages indexed by Google and are being found by various search terms. We added a new site a week ago www.insureautorate.com and it now has 30 pages indexed and is on page one of Google for the term "mercury auto insurance discounts".

I have added 2 subdomains for my other sites and they only have a few pages indexed so far.
