what about in a child that is less than 2 years old. My daughter has nightmare, or more like night terrors, where at times she has her eyes open but is completely asleep, and it takes at least a minute to wake her up. Once I even tried to wake her up because she was trembling and screaming, when I picked her up, she was as stiff as a board. So, I just kept whispering in her ear, it is ok, mommy is here.

I wonder if the same reason occure in children who aren't yet able to express themselves, and how to deal with that?

Dr. Spock says that, you should just leave them alone, but as a mother I find it increadable hard to just watch her scream in terror and not do anything.

dear sandra

what you have described is not night terror.

the child is stuck up in REM SLEEP. either he has sleep deprivation or nuerologicl signal retardation.

there is no use talking to that 2 year old child.

check whether that happens whenever your child has fever . then you neednt worry.a 2 year old upto five years may get febrile fits if the fever is very high.

or else please consult a paediatric neurologist.
