Baby Signing is a slow process of talking, demonstrating the sign, and repeating. Each Sign is done slowly and the next Sign isn't done until the last sign is concrete in the mind of the child. It can very rewarding for a caregiver to get a response for a sign.

Baby Signing does not hurt the baby's chance at learning and the opposite may be true, the baby will sooner understand the concept of commenting beyond just repeating sounds. The baby will get the understand that moving there hand in a certain way will get them what they initially wanted. They can take that understanding f the basic concept and apply it to speech.

The basic concept of communicating is difficult to grasp onto at fist. Being in a world where no one understands you may be tougher, so give them the tools to express themselves early in development will give the a head-start.

There have been many studies to the usefulness of Baby Singing and when the study is done properly without bias they always show a benefit to the child, both emotionally and intellectually.

Babies Can Use Real American or International Sign Language

Babies don't have the bias of their adult parents. Sign is Sign and the important aspect of Sign is not county of origin but to tell a story. Even if that story is something as simple as "hungry".

Baby Sign Language is getting more serious lately with morally unethical convincing parents of their teaching methods. Parents have to be on the look out for these characters, sometimes word of mouth is the only guide. So if a parent is serious about this practice and is more than willing to spend the time with their baby to teach them sign they should go into the practice whole-hearty and love in their hearts.

A few question and potential solutions

If your toddler prefers sign to the words he/she has learned the best practice is not rewarding any use of sign. Constantly say "Use your words", reward them if they start asking for whatever they initially wanted. Breaking them out of Sign may be as difficult as getting them to use sing but you got time conversing.

American Sign vs. Family Sign

The toddler may have trouble with some Signs if you're trying American Sign but what is important is that the toddler is trying and some Signs won't be perfect but constancy is important.
