Sunrise on a Gorgeous Day
Sunrise on a Gorgeous Day

Don't Worry, Be Happy

Some days, you get the feeling you might as well stay in bed. Those gray, rainy, ugly days. Everyone around you is as gloomy as you (maybe worse). You probably already know the day will be a bad one before you even get up. But others start out glorious and just keep going from there! Let's celebrate the days that you know are just going to be great from the moment you open your eyes...

  • The sun is shining (or is coming up). Its hard to be crabby when you have sun rays glowing through the windows and/or a gorgeous palette of sunrise colors to enjoy! Throw open the curtains and lift the shades!
  • Your clothes fit better than expected. You pull on a pair of jeans, or a T-shirt and, lo and behold, your workout and/or diet is really paying off! Keep up the great work, put on a smile and congratulate yourself for some super results!
  • Reach into your pocket and find a big bill! Now that your pants fit a bit better, you can finally find that $10 or $20 from a few months ago! Good for you! Its your lucky day.
  • You get a piece of mail or email that is uplifting. Maybe you didn't go to the mailbox last night... time to go check what is awaiting, other than bills! Of course, you can always check your email account to see what is awaiting. Junk email abounds, but perhaps there is good news. A note from a friend, news about a reunion, an upcoming wedding, or maybe even a positive response from a job application (finally!)
  • Your favorite song is on the radio. It is definitely your day! Turn on your car, or flip on the stereo. You don't even have to put in a CD or use your MP3. They are playing your tune! You know you'll be humming along for the rest of the day...

  • You get a call from a long lost friend or relative. Perhaps it has to do with a get-together, or maybe it is an apology or reconciliation. Either way, seize the moment and don't let another day pass without making amends or further plans to get together in the future! Life is too short.
  • Your quarterly reports came back (and they look pretty good) and/or your child got a good report card. In either case, you can bask in the glow of a job well done - as an employee or parent! It can be difficult juggling so many tasks (mom/dad, wife/husband, employee/manager, etc.) When you get good feedback on one or several fronts - its time to feel extra happy!
  • You are going to take a few days off. Even if your vacation days are not going to take place until next month - smile! You can plan ahead for your days away from the office, or the kids. You need not have an expensive trip planned to enjoy the experience. Just know that your time is coming up. If you have a few intervening "bad days" before then, you can weather them that much more easily in the meantime.
  • You don't need any of the above for true happiness. Really. It might seem like a fairy tale, at times. Even when the mud puddles outside your front door may seem deeper than the angst in your soul. But truly, I tell you, there are at least 5 people in this world that are depending on you right now, that you possibly don't even know. As an unknown author once said: "To the world you might be one person, but to one person you might be the world." Keep on going, and giving of yourself, and God, Karma, whomever and whatever you believe in, will return the favor before you know it.

p.s. Have a really great day!!

Have a Really Happy Day!

The sun is not shining here and their is no loose change or dollars to be found in my pocket's, no mail or emails to uplift me, and no recent calls from long lost relative and friends, but your last few words in your article was extremely inspirational which is going to make my day a much better one.!!

Too much focus is given to negativity and depression. The power of positive thinking in the face of adversity deserves the attention that you've given it and more. Cheers,

Because there is someone depending on each one of us, we all need to look after our well-being. I don't mean to only think of oneself, but to care for mind and body and keep strong.

You know, that is 100% true! I find that on my very bad days, I really have to keep going, especially with young kids. Thanks 2patricias. I need to keep this in mind.
