I'm a really big fan of silver accessories. Every item of jewellery that I have bought or has been bought for me since my early teens has been silver in colour. I don't wear anything else. I don't know if it's down to my pale skin tone, but silver accessories just seem to suit me better than gold.

With metallics being popular in fashion right now, there's loads of silver accessories to choose from. Probably best not to go full on tin foil look with an entire outfit in silver, but a few carefully chosen silver accessories can make a stylish statement.

When I was a teenager I had the funkiest pair of silver trainers, I wore them until the leather cracked. I'd seen then in some fashion magazine and as soon as I saw them, I had to have them. Later that very same day, those trainers were on my feet. I loved my silver trainers more than any other item of apparel I have ever owned, and I never encountered anyone wearing them but me.

Cue a few years later when heels were my footwear of choice, I was like a magpie if I saw a pair of silver heels. They just look so glamourous and girly, and the great thing about silver accessories is that they go with anything. Silver is such a neutural shade that it's probably one of the easiest to wear. It adds a bit of sparkle to any outfit too.

A scarf or belt can always brighten up a look, I've had a thing for scarves especially, for years now. They're so versatile to wear as you can tie and drape them in various ways to create different looks. They're also an affordable way to brighten up your wardrobe.

Silver works well with any shades, but especially black and white. A silver scarf or belt over a black or white outfit breaks up the colour, it's also useful for diverting attention away from any areas you want to hide. A scarf will divert attention from your lower half, and a belt will excentuate the waist and draw attention to your middle.

Silver bags are a real statement piece, especially the oversized styles that are still so fashionable. Have you heard about Victoria Beckham's 2008 Christmas present from husband David? It's a Hermes Himalayan Birkin bag, of which there are only 3 in the world. With a 3 carat diamond on the lock, it's not surprising that it cost £80,000.

The sad news for all is that the waiting list for the bag has closed, though if you are on the list, you can expect to wait for four years until it's in your possession!

I have a thing about bra straps showing, it annoys the hell out of me. I don't care if your bra strap is showing, just mine. When I was younger I found a way to get around this when wearing something with thin straps where the bra would inevitably show. I bought a silver bikini. Not a triangle bra type bikini, but one that actually looks like a regular bra with support. The straps still showed, but it was far less obvious and to me, less revealing than having my actual bra strap on show.

I guess it was just because it was silver. It didn't feel like a bra because you don't get silver underwear right? Well that's what I thought, but how very wrong I was! There's some super sexy silver underwear out there.

The thing about silver coloured jewellery is that just because it is silver in colour, it doesn't mean that the metal is actually silver. White gold, platinum, stainless steel, titanium and tungstan are all silver in colour too.

Most celebrities are opting for silver coloured metals at red carpet events, with yellow gold becoming less popular these days. For a more contempory look, it seems that silver coloured jewellery is the trend.

With so many silver metals to choose from, it's only really a price issue that would determine which one to go for. Precious metal prices are at an all time high currently, so the more affordable options are definitely, stainless steel, titanium and tungstan.
