Imagination means everything!

If you can imagine a picture of something you like, you can create anything! I didn't use any patterns and everything was done free-hand. You don't need any special training or courses, just a little time, practice, and ingenuity. You could also use yarn or scrap material for hair, mouths, ears, or other details. Stencils also work great for detailing. Craft paints are inexpensive ($1-$3) depending on size, and pre-cut wood pieces available anywhere you buy craft materials and also inexpensive.

I make my own cards by just drawing things I see in nature or person. Everything I draw, woodburn, or paint is by hand, so I completely agree with you. Nice crafting ideas!
