Paper Clutter Is the Worst!

Is paper getting the best of you and your space? The most important thing is to establish an easy-to-maintain system to manage the paper in your office.

Where do you put incoming bills? Where is the newspaper stored when you don’t have time to read it right away? Where do your magazines go? Do you actually read all those magazines you subscribe to? Begin by designating a specific bin, box or basket for incoming mail, magazines and newspapers. You have a home that you return to at the end of your day--give your paper one, too.

Find a box or bin that isn’t too large. Otherwise, you’ll have room enough to save several weeks’ worth of old newspapers. Remember, there’s no new news in a week-old newspaper.

Watch Out for Large Furniture

One thing that can really clutter up a room is a large piece of furniture. That huge desk might seem like a good idea, but consider if you’re getting good use out of it, or if it’s become one more place for you to dump stuff at the end of a workday. The size of your furniture should mirror the size of the room. Make sure the size of your furniture meets the size of the room. The “less is more” theory really applies here. By having less furniture, you can easily get rid of clutter and create more space in your home.

Combat Closet Clutter

Everyone always complains about having no space in their closets. Although this is a widespread problem, it’s important for us all to remember that it’s not the closet’s fault. Following are some simple tips that will help you get your closet in order.

Ask yourself, “When is the last time I sorted through my things?” Go ahead and clean your stuff out. You’ll be surprised by the difference. An important rule to follow here is, if it doesn’t fit or you don’t wear it, then don’t keep it!

When you go to put away what’s left, group like items together. It’s nice if you use the same kind of hangers. A great place for additional storage is the inside of the closet door. Find places at eye level or below to store those frequently used items. Long-term storage items can be stored up high. This is called storing smart, and it will help keep your closet super organized.

To keep things organized, think if you have room before you purchase that new pair of shoes. A good rule to follow is the “one in, one out” rule: If something new goes into your closet, then make sure something comes out.
