Any body who's work involve using a computer, sitting at a desk, doing paperwork have knew that annoying pain when he stretches back after a long lean on his computer or desk. Sitting for long hours daily can pose some serious health risks, and if you think sitting does not involve any work, you are simply wrong! Although it requires less muscular effort, the muscles are required to hold the trunk, the neck and shoulders in a fixed position.

The problems from long sitting can be classified into the following categories.

  • Poor Posture: The alignment of head, neck, shoulders can cause pain and stress if poorly aligned, or one is leaned towards the computer. Try to rest your back on a comfortable chair, and choose a good type of office chair that has big comfortable back. The feet should be planted firmly on the floor or comfortably on a footrest, Keep a comfortable shoulder and arm posture. Avoid slouching. Keep your wrists straight and avoid any up, down or side way movements.

  • Eye Strain: The long time in front of the monitor can cause dry or watery eyes, sore, burning or itchy eyes, you must give your eyes a break every 10 to 15 minutes try to look at something far from your desk and focus on it for some time and then bring your focus back. Also blink often because recent researches proved that computer users forget to blink when staring at the monitor for long time, which causes dry eyes.

  • Forgetting to eat: sometimes when one is busy working on the computer he forgets about daily meals and time passes by without his notice, this is can develop into a bad habit which will make you lose weight and energy, so always remember to schedule time aside for essential meals.

  • Excessive eating: sometimes the person working on computer eats excessively without noticing (especially when using the PC for Fun), which will cause overweight and laziness.

  • Lack of Movement: Moving your muscles is vital for the health of the whole body, so any one working long hours on computers will lack the daily natural movement, and getting lazy. So its important to take a walk at least once every day, you can walk for 4 to 6 blocks, and to make it easier you can walk to the grocers or to a nearby friend's house or even to the work place especially if its near your house.
