A HIgh Worship Form
Sitting on God's lap is among the highest forms of worship. But it's a worship type that has become so strange in our day. Formal gatherings in big solemn church buildings with formal programs, rituals and singing, and where you have to wear your Sunday best--sitting and standing and standing and sitting (and where you are not aloud to LOL)--is strictly what is called worship.
But really, God has a better way--just sit on his lap and enjoy him. We can all just sit and doze off on his lap, or whisper sweet nothings to his ear. Some people wail and shout and cry to the Lord (and this, too, is good), knocking and banging on the gate of the Kingdom to allow them access, but a few are starting to discover simply laying in bed with God as his kids, resting quietly, and hearing God tell bedtime stories to lull them to sleep.
I remember Jesus doing this exactly one stormy night. He was in a boat sleeping. The boat was about to capsize, threatening the lives of all those aboard, Jesus included. The disciples all knocked on the door, banged on it, too, shouted and cried for help. But Jesus merely laid on the Father's lap, sleeping. Now, how can you sleep and relax in such peril? Never--unless you're in deep worship. And deep worship is never through our strenuous efforts, no mater how "holy"--it's by resting in God alone. A true worshiper sleeps in the face of danger.
Jesus once spoke about a parable where a man (let's call him Jack) suddenly had an unexpected visitor. He had no food to offer him so he went to his neighbor (let's call him Jake) at midnight to ask for bread. Jack banged hard on Jake's door, and Jake said he could not get up to give him bread because his kids were already sound asleep right beside him in bed. But after persistent begging and knocking, Jake finally went and gave Jack bread.
We may say, hmm, what a success Jack was, and that's because he persistently banged on his neighbor's door. Then we conclude that persistent knocking on God's door opens it for us. We should keep on praying and worshiping till doors are opened for us. Okay. However, we should look at this more deeply. If you're inside the house with the Father, you won't have to knock on any door. Instead, you'd enjoy sitting or laying on his lap and relaxing. If you need anything, you just whisper to his ear--no need to shout out loud--and he will get up from bed and hand you what you need, even breakfast in bed.
Sleeping or resting in God or waiting on him takes more faith than worshiping the way we do today. We are most uncomfortable with merely sitting on God's lap; we always want to do things for him. We're contented with the lowest type of worship and cannot dare take our worship life to the next level by sitting on God's lap.
There's another thing I discovered--leisurely walking with God as a form of worship. Do this seriously for 300 years and you're bound to be raptured right now! If that confused you, just remember that a thousand years to God is like a mere day. Enoch did that worship and God was so pleased with him he was raptured a long way before Jesus' second coming.
You remember what St. Peter did the night before he was to be executed? He was in prison sound asleep, with soldiers on either his side. He learned that worship form from Jesus who slept in a boat amid a storm. Peter was so soundly asleep that the angel had to wake him up. Can you sleep tonight if tomorrow morning is your schedule for beheading?
We have to be updated on the latest worship style that really counts in Heaven--sitting on God's lap!
