Skin Abscess Symptoms and Treatment
48Skin abscesses normally starts as a surface infection in and around hair follicles and it is called folliculitis.
This disease is associated with bacteria staphylococcus aureus. In the follicle bacteria are well protected from the defence mechanisms of the body and could cause microabscesses. If they are not controlled become enlarged into what is called common boils.
These boils could accumulate together to form a larger infection in which the resulting boil is called carbuncle.
Common boils may be recurring in patients and are usually frustrating problem especially in young ones. Though they are confirmed to the skin but could be cause of bacteremia and complications.
The process that normally lead to abscesses involve tissue destruction by the invading organisms and the massive release lysosome enzyme from the body neutrophils as well as the deposition of fibrin.
Symptoms, Diagnosis and Treatment
A painful swelling on the neck, boils, irritation around some whiskers, rashes in some parts of the body. The pus from the lesion is cultured on the media in the medical lab. Treatment is by antimicrobial agents.
Necrotizing Infections
A good example is synergistic necrotizing fasciitis. The cause of this disease is not sure but it is believe to have been caused by the entry of bacteria through the ulcer on the sole of the patient’s foot.
Diabetic patient’s constantly suffers from poor skin circulation and inability to feel anything. This may have been the cause of the ulcer.
The disease spread quickly and the patchy necrosis and skin anesthesia that characterised this rapidly spreading dangerous infections.
Although tissue necrosis occurs in other infections, but in necrotizing infection, the necrosis is more out standing.
Necrotizing infections of the skin are often caused by S. pyogenes, but can also be caused by combination of aerobic and non aerobic bacteria.
Antibiotic treatment of this infection had not been successful, it may be due to insufficient blood supply. Treatment of this infection is usually surgically.
