Skull Candy recently started their own sort of spin-off company called 2XL that don’t have that skull insignia. I’m not really certain why they decided to do that, because Skull Candy is one of the most recognized names in the headphones industry.

Just between you and me, I have actually heard from a competing headphones industry that “we don’t make headphones with little skulls on them”. In other words, some people probably don’t like the “extreme” look of Skull Candy. Perhaps people are just put off by the Skull Candy name. It’s not like you have to listen to Heavy Metal music when you have them on or anything. Maybe this is why Disney puts out certain films under the Miramax label. Do you really think that Walt Disney would be proud of Pulp Fiction? (I would be.)

The 2XL has its own style for the “individual style with universal appeal”. They are low cost, but probably not the high definition ones that Skull Candy is so famous for. The 2XL line has four basic forms that are picture clockwise from top left: Spoke, Groove, Ratio, and 4 Corners.

Spoke

The Spoke is an in-ear bud that resembles the standard The Spoke is an in-ear bud that resembles the standard iPhone earbuds. It has noise-isolation, in-ear acoustics, and includes changeable gels. Spoke has a suggested price of $14.99

Groove

The Groove is definitely set apart from the rest of the collection with its “active grip hanger” which can go around the ear so they stay in.  It is similar to the Coosh Headphones, but these are not removable.   I found that these headphones were the most engaging of them all.  In putting them in, I thought the sound was the most complete of all four styles.  The Groove also has a suggested retail price of $14.99.

Ratio

These earbuds are the cheapest of the styles.  They have a silicone wrap and a dynamic acoustic range.  It has a price of about $9.99.

4 Corners

These headphones are the one with the most odd look.  They wrap around the head from ear to ear, just like the ones of the Sony Walkman back in the eighties.  Unlike those headphones, these have square padding and not round.  The sound is quite good, and so the price is slightly higher at $19.99.

These 2XL headphones have seven different color patterns including Wrecking Ball, Snake Eyes, Nuevo Sonido, Grills Pink, Grills Black, Rasta, and Bunny.

They are all available from the 2XL site to order at the varying prices and colors listed able, while supplies list.  You also can get them at mainstream media outlets such as Radio Shack and Best Buy.
