Skunk Spray On Dogs

What to Do When Your Dog Is Sprayed By a Skunk

If your dog has been sprayed by a skunk, it s a crazy time.  Your dog is going crazy trying to wipe off the smell while you are trying to figure out what happened and how to get rid of that horrible smell.

The first thing you should do simultaneously is to check the dog for bite or scratch marks.  You check for this while you determine where exactly on your dog's body he has been hit with skunk spray.

If a dog has been hit in the face or mouth with skunk spray, it can be very dangerous.  You need to call your vet or the emergency pet clinic and follow their instrucition.

To remove the smell, you need to first make sure the dog is secured in a cage or on a leash until you are ready to deal with the skunk odor removal process.  Dogs will try to rub the smell off and everything they touch will have skunk smell on it.

Gather all of your skunk odor removal supplies and get your work area ready before you let the dog out.  It is much easier to have everything ready and in place before dealing with an unruly dog. Skunk spray on dogs is a horrible, fowl-smelling inconvenience.
