What makes first loves so memorable and poignant? The Japanese are adept at enacting the sacredness of first loves and Sky of Love is an excellent example of this. The Japanese box office hit, Sky Of Love, may be essentially may be essentially a tearjerker, but don't let that dampen your mood.

Based on a novel circulated to 11 million readers via a mobile phone network in Japan, this beautifully-shot film traces a romance that blossoms between a female high-schooler (Yui Aragaki) and a secret admirer (Haruma Miura) who calls her on her mobile phone.

To me, the notion of a phone stalker is hardly romantic, but then again, I may not be in the film's target demographic which is likely to include women and teenagers.

Yes, the film is long, but the leads need time to suffer tribulations before grasping the full meaning of love.

By then your heart will melt and you realise the warm fuzzy feeling is what you've paid money to experience.
