59The slimming pill and diet pill industry is hugely profitable. Obesity is at an all time high and there is an unrealistic image of beauty portrayed in the media. One thing I know for sure, when there is money involved there will be shady business going on. And there are billions of dollars involved in weight loss industry.
There are two types of slimming pills: prescription diet pills and weight loss supplements. Prescriptions are regulated by the government and must be proven to be safe and effective in order to sell. Supplements are not regulated. It is perfectly legal to say “this pill can make you lose 100 lbs in a month with no diet or exercise”.
Obviously, this claim is impossible to be true. Yet every day we buy (literally – buy$$) into the pipe dream that there is a magic pill out there that will make us lose weight without changing any other aspect of our lives. If you want to believe this, then you can keep on getting fatter and poorer.
However, if you are truly interested in losing weight and are interested in utilizing as many resources that are out there – then please keep reading!
The single most important thing you need to know is this: you will have to diet and you will have to exercise. There is no way to get around it! It is just scientifically impossible otherwise! Look, I love Cooler Ranch Doritos as much as anyone else but there are some difficult realities to face.
