As some of you may know, having your own website is one of the best ways to cut cost in your business. In our time, you have to have a website to stay in the competition. Besides broadening your potential market, you can also stay open 24/7 which means that you never have to miss a sale, a service, a comment, a meeting...
You can easily build your own website for cheap and you don't have to know any HTML code. All you have to do is pay for the web hosting which generally cost anywhere from about $70-1000 a year. Then you use something like word-press or go-daddy and pick a template to suite your needs.
Unfortunately,
when it comes to web hosting for small business, just because it is
free doesn't necessarily mean it is better. Whether you run an online
business or advertise for other companies, you really want to be sure
that the people who come to your site will find a site that runs and
looks professional.
There is nothing worse then landing on a website that doesn't work right. It is a sure fire way to lose potential business fast. It says something about your company. If you don't care enough to give your guest a great experience, then the message they are receiving is that they aren't likely to get treated very well either.
It's called the customer experience. It needs to look professional, it needs to be secure and it has to function correctly. If you are missing any of these parts, I am sorry folks your site will fail you. Now, if you could have a professional website built for you for less than $1000.00 and $100.00 a year would you do it?
It used to be that having a professional website built would cost at least a couple grand and then additional money if you wanted to do a secure e-commerce site too. Everyone does business over the internet. Here are the facts.
People spend 80% more time on the internet than they do watching TV. You do that math. Anyways, so I found this website that does e-commerce web building and hosting for about $1000.00 which I think is pretty cheap. It's called KBC Consulting. I looked at the websites they have built and they have a pretty good array of different sites to suite whatever needs you might have.
So while building and owning your own website can be done for about $70.00 a month you should also be aware that if something happens to your site, you are on your own. Have you ever tried to get a hold of someone from godaddy or wordpress. It's nearly impossible. Then you have to fill out a bunch of forms to submit an inquiry then wait another 24 hours for someone to get back to you just so they can sell you something to fix the problem.
I think having a blog site as another source to direct business is good but when it comes to your real business site you want a professional site and you want be able to talk to a live person when you need to. It does make a difference and besides that, it takes a lot of time to build a decent website on your own. When it comes to business, I would leave it to the professionals.
Besides, the benefits of having a professional website absolutely outweighs the cost.

...and? J/k. :)
About a year or so ago, I got all excited about websites and found SBI run by Ken Evoy which is a good intro for anyone and especially if you do not know much. I paid for a years subscription to SBI and the emphasis is on "building a business not just a website". Anyone can put up a website but Search TRAFFIC is the real issue and trually it is COSTLY and VERY HARD in my experience to deliver traffic on your own. A website can end up being a nice but lonely decoration which is why joining Hubpages can be a better way to go, not to mention the wonderful writers you find here! SBI also has this side of the equation covered by all accounts but it wasn't my cup of tea and too limiting for my purposes as I wanted to learn more programming/tech stuff - being my own worst enemy I sometimes think! Still, I've put up four sites now and my latest - letlovebe.me - I'm really happy with because it co-ordinates some very useful programming (AJAX, PHP, CSS and a MySQL database). The template could easily be used as a template for any business wanting to show off products/services and there is much room there to make stylistic changes to suit (colors, background, images, headers etc). But my sites are more like an adjunct to a business card rather than traffic generators like SBI or Hubpages. I've given up on any grand claims as the results don't support it for individual websites out on their lonesome (as opposed to community sites with huge followings.)Always interesting to see what others come up with so thanks for this hub Sandra!
It is true physicdog. You could have the most kick ass site ever but never see any business that way. Generating traffic is the hardest part of all and I think it would be pretty costly to have people do it for you.
It's one of those things that people and business owners have to do for themselves if they don't have a lot of money to dish out on paying writes to do it for them.
I have a couple of websites but still don't understand the dynamics of changing style sheets and all that stuff so really it's not for me. Basic blog pages are fine but other than that I am lost.
Thanks for sharing. Congratulations!
Your hubs are always timely and readable as they pass on useful infomation
Thanks Kenny.
this is really very good solution for small scale business owner.
Howdy Sandra. That's good info. I build websites and it's sometimes a big pain. People ask me all the time to help them with their sites and I've never had a good place to refer them to. The link you gave sounds like a good option. Thanks!
Good article! Some of the free web-hosting sites aren't all that bad either, you just have to be real careful when choosing one.
I thinky they make good 'start-up' sites for someone with very little to no cash - Many of them are 'upgradeable' at any time. I have one, and I think its starting to pickup a little, but ultimately, when I'm more financially stable, I'll move up to something a little more expensive and that offers more
Hi Benji and Kenneth, thanks for you comments. I actually know the owner of the site. He's a good friend of mine from way back. He is good people. :D
Nice. That's cool of you to promote a friend like that.
