Small Business Success and Online Advertising Facts
80Basic Tips for Online Start-up Businesses
10 Steps To A Successful Online Business!
1. Remember the list!
Everyone will tell you to make a list, get a list or buy a list! Only because the money is in the list! Well here is something to think about when amassing that list.
The money is not in your list - people are! If you treat them unfairly, rudely, abuse them or oversell them, they won't stay on your list for long!
2. Tell Them What They Need But Don't Tell Them How To Get It!
There is nothing more frustrating, than spending my hard earned money, on yet another 'we tell it all' ebook or program that purports to have all the answers on how to make money on the internet only to find out that it is just another collection of worn out, same old, tried this and it didn't explain the "HOW TO GET" facts.
If you are going to tell all - then do so! Include the 'How To' as well!
3. Always sell your product at least one level lower than the perceived cost.
The value perceived by the public that is placed on your product or service is what really determines it's final selling price. If you choose to price that product slightly lower than it's perceived value then you will have a runaway hit!
Now all you have to do is test the different selling prices to come up with it's true perceived cost! Once that is completed the hard part to riches is over!
4. Give away lots of bonuses to enhance the product or purchase value.
Now that you have the determined the perceived value of your product, increase it by adding free bonuses. Put a time limit on their availability. Give them away to only to those early bird buyers.
5. You scratch my back - I'll scratch yours!
We are both in this internet marketing thing for a reason. You may have a different reason than I do but we vare still both in the same arena. The old saying 'United we stand - divided we fall' is very appropriate in the world of internet marketing.
Ask yourself this: How many successful Internet Marketers do you know that can attribute their success solely to themselves.
Just about every one of the successful marketers will tell you they did it with the help of their friends.
6. Make everyone your affiliate and then give them your product to market!
You have seen the commercial 'And she told two people who told two people who told two people who...' and on and on it goes.
Before you know it you have an army of sales people and all you did was tell two people and asked them to tell two people about your product.
7. Keep Those Secrets - Secret!
If you have or know the secret to success, for heaven's sake - if not for the sake of the sequel ebook - keep that secret secret!
Tell everything about the service or product that you can except the secret that makes it what it is! If you don't why should I buy your next ebook? I already know everything there is to know from you!
8. Don't deal with bad or poorly run auto responders and for heaven's sake don't merge and purge those email lists either.
You see a poorly run auto responder allows you to email your customers twice or perhaps three times on the same subject on the same day.
The first time is to introduce the subject. The second and third time is to apologize for the broken links or duplicate mailings or to tell them about the bandwidth usage that crashed the server.....
If you have clients who are on more than one of your email lists, don't delete them from one of the lists. This way they get the same message twice, maybe three times and we all know that it takes a couple of showings to convince some of those clients before they open their wallets.
9. Use your family and personal circumstances to help sell your product or service.
Not only does this shed some personality into your profile but it also gives a lot more ammunition to use when mailing your list.
So go ahead don't be afraid to send a friend or family member to hospital while you help cover their medical bills through your emergency firesale in aid of.....
And if you know of someone in need of money because they are about to loose their house and they don't know what their 3 and 5 year old kids will do.....tell your mailing list...they all have a heart and will help out in times of need.
10. Don't check those links!
Broken links (even if they aren't) are good reasons to send out gentle reminders on your just released, almost sold out, only a few spots left, firesale of a product.
Besides, admitting you made a mistake, gives you credibility to being human and not just another cash sucking sales person filling up my inbox.

Basic Online Advertising for your Online Business
New to online advertising? Wonder why people would pay you for space on your website, and how much? Or why you're getting so little?
Advertising, is perhaps the second oldest profession in the world. And online advertising is probably the biggest thing on the web. Subscription or member based services are harder to implement, and its easy for one to sign up nowadays for the plethora of online advertising providers available. The basic idea behind advertising, whether online or offline. People are generally willing to pay to expose their brand/product/service to an audience, and also, the opportunity to convert members of those audience into paying customers or members of their community. These are some of the few ways online advertising is calculated. Here are some of the established industry norms:CPM - Cost per MilleCPM is usually referred to as "cost per thousand impressions", and the M in the CPM refers to mille - the Latin term for thousand. This means that the website owner will be paid based on the number of times the ad is shown to the visitors of the said website. As the advertiser is paying for people to see the ad, this generally works best for websites with lots of traffic, and is usually placing dependent - the ad is usually placed in a prominent section of the blog.CPC - Cost Per ClickCPC refers to cost per click. The website owner makes money based on the amount of legitimate visitors that click their online ads. This can apply to both text and image ads, although text ads are more popular.CPC ads can generally be placed anywhere, due to the fact that the results are measured based on clicks and the concern is not so much branding, as much as performance. However, click based ad networks are vulnerable to click fraud. Click fraud is often defined most simply as "a person clicking on his/her own ads". When a user is found to be engaging in click fraud, the usual action of the ad network would be to terminate the said users account. However, there is seldom legal action, due to lack of laws regarding the issue. Some countries are adopting legislation to make click fraud a criminal offense.CPT - Cost Per TermThe upside of cost per term is that both sides are aware of what they will get, however, the downside is exactly the same reason - the fixed price. This does not allocate for increases or decreases in traffic, nor for non-performance (ads not being clicked). It is usually either high traffic sites or low traffic sites that will get offered CPT ad placements. Of course, higher traffic sites will get a much larger fixed sum.The reason why CPT is used for high traffic sites is usually that it would cost to much to advertise via CPM, and for lower traffic sites, they are usually bought together as a package together with other low traffic sites. For example, if you wish to buy 1 million impressions (ad views) on a site that generates 250,000 impressions a day, the advertising you buy would only last for four days. Assuming you are paying a CPM rate of $10 (which means $10 for 1000 impressions, or a cent per impression), you will end up paying $1000 for 1 million ad impressions. A negotiation between the advertiser and the website owner could then go as thus: We will give you $1500 for 2 million impressions. (In essence, 500,000 ad impressions are given for free in consideration for a large buy).Although getting a lower rate, the website owner gets to close a confirmed sale of more of his/her ad inventory, and the advertiser gets value for money. As an example of how CPT works on a lower traffic scale is such: for example, a site with 50 unique visitors a day and a site with 82 unique visitors a day might get the same CPT price of $10 for a month's worth of advertising.CPA - Cost Per ActionSome ad networks, while still calculating the number of clicks and impressions serve, only calculate a profit for the website owner when the visitor sees an ad, clicks on it, and then performs an action. The action can be as simple as the visitor signing up with the website advertised, or as complex as a visitor having to purchase a given product. CPA rates are usually higher than CPC, as much more is expected from the audience of the advertising. As of such, CPA can work well for niche sites (eg, a site on gardening, advertising a gardening supplies online store).Small Business and Online Advertising

Managing your Home-Based Online Business
Managing Your Home-Based Business
Working from home is something that likely appeals to most of us. Thoughts of avoiding an ugly commute, saving money on gas, staying in your pajamas all day, and choosing your own work hours will likely inspire you to feel a sense of control over your own destiny, with the added bonus of freedom from stress.I have been a home-based freelancer for the past five years and it has definitely been a learning experience for me. I have owned and operated 2 different online crafting businesses, and also have worked as a freelance proofreader. It has taken me some time to find my niche, but I must say that working from home is fabulous. Of course, my choice to start a career at home has not been completely free of pitfalls. It has been, and continues to be, a learning experience. Here are some of the things I have learned along the way.Don’t let your business take over your life! When you are operating an online business, you are open 24/7 and it is all too easy to fall into the trap of spending every waking hour clicking away on your computer. I have had days where I hardly spoke to my family, didn’t get dressed or go outside (even on the nicest days), went to the fridge to get a snack (only to find that it was empty), and couldn’t quite figure out why my house was so messy and that I didn’t have anything clean in my closet to wear. My hard-learned lessons include:1. Figure out exactly how many hours you want to work each day, and stick to it. For example, I am early riser and with coffee in hand I am at my keyboard by 6:00 a.m. Because I start so early, I always make sure that I only work until 3:00 p.m. During the remainder of the day, I will “periodically” check my emails and send any necessary responses, but that is all.2. Schedule some time daily (during your working hours) to network, market, chat, advertise, etc. to keep your business profitable. With any online or freelance business, you need to get your business name and services well known and networking is required. But, don’t spend all of your free hours doing this. If you schedule it into your day, you will maintain a better balance in your life and keep your free hours for you, your family and your friends.3. Create a budget and stick to it. Having your own business can be very profitable, but there will always be lean times as well. It is wise to design a budget that will not only keep your business running, but will also leave you some cash during the lean time or slower shopping seasons.4. Get dressed! I know, this sounds stupid but I can’t begin to tell you what a huge difference this will make in your day. It is so tempting to just hit the keyboard first thing in the morning and stay there in your pajamas or sweatpants all day. Your motivation, inspiration, enthusiasm, creativity, and confidence will increase and you will have a much more productive day.Effective management of your home-based business is really about managing yourself and your energy. It is about making the necessary changes within yourself so that you make the best use out of every hour in your day. Get in touch with yourself and how you really want to spend your time and your life.PrintShare it! — Rate it: up down flag this hub
