There's one thing that small dog owners have in common - we love our pets! They're basically a member of the family, right? I know that's the case for my Maltese, Beau (here he is pictured when he was just a puppy!)

When I first got Beau, I didn't really know all that much about small dogs. My parents had always had a cat or a larger dog when I was growing up, but taking care of a little Maltese on my own was a totally new experience. I found that the time, patience, care, and structure needed for him was a lot more than I realized!

But it has definitely been worth the work - Beau is my buddy, and I couldn't imagine life without him. If you're a small dog owner, or if you're thinking about it, check out these resoures to help you learn all you need to know. They helped me a lot, and have made life with my dog a much more pleasant experience:

Small-Dogs.net is a great place with tons of info about small dogs and how to take care of them.

Tips from Matty is a resource from PBS about training your dog.

ADTN Crate Training - tips from the American Dog Trainers Network for crate/kennel training your dog.

YouTube also has some very informative videos, including this one about house training (aka potty training) your dog.

Beau looks like a real doll baby! I agree, small dos are part of the family. Stop by my blog and see Houdini, my Maltese ... he is the BEST!

now thats a really cute dog you have there. Im going to get a small dog over the summer. I have one but its to big for me to play with. He's a rottweiler! So my parents decided to get me another one. I might get a maltese but im undecided. If your looking for a dog go to this website. It really helps!
