Small envelopes can be a lot of fun. First of all they are really cute. Who could not resist small envelopes with small little invitations to go in them?

There are a few different small envelopes that you can pick from that are not too small to go through the US postal system. These are A2 which are 4 3/8” x 5 3/4”, these envelopes have a square flap. You could get a Baronial 4 which is 3 5/8” x 5 1/8” or a Baronial 5 which is 4 1/8 x 5 1/2”, these are the ones with a pointed flap. The Baronial envelopes, the pointed flap ones, are more traditionally used for formal events. The A-Style envelopes, the ones with the square flaps, are used more for casual events. You should definitely make sure that these styles match. It would be like have two different types of shoes on if you had a A-Style and a Baronial in the same envelope!

RSVP Envelope Options

You will need these small envelopes for your wedding invitations, or if you are having a big party it would be good for that too, for the RSVPs. The small envelopes are important because you will need to know who is coming to the wedding. This does add up in terms of postage, but if you are running around trying to make all of your wedding or party plans you don’t want to have to worry about talking to people on the phone to take the reservations. It will be much easier to go through the mail and mark all of your guests on a list.

You can even buy special stamps that cost less to send these envelopes because the stamps are for one ounce and these envelopes should not weight more than that. You must make sure that your envelope is at least 3 1/2” tall by 5” wide because the US Postal system will not mail anything that is smaller.

The great thing about these is that they could be used for save the date cards, and the often are, especially because of the reduced cost in postage. It also really helps whenever it comes to printing and postage costs.

Small Envelope Variety

There is as much variety in these small envelopes as there is with any of the other standard sized envelopes. You can also easily get the with liners although I personally don’t think that the liners colors that are readily available are very nice, but this depends of course on what you are using them for. I’m sure a real shiny foil silver lined envelope would look great with an invitation that had hints of shiny silver in it.

Small envelopes are great for a lot of different applications. They are mostly used for RSVPs for large parties. One thing that is awesome about them is that they will typically hold a quarter of a letter sheet of paper which means that you can get four cards onto one sheet and then have the whole stack printed and then cut at Kinko’s on their huge cutting machine, which produces pretty darn near perfect cuts.

If you are using small envelopes for wedding invitations you should consider pre printing your guests address onto the back flap. This is not difficult to do and there is a great guide on how to easily address the envelopes by printing the list onto them at addressingenvelopeseasily.com The reason you should consider doing this is that guest for some reason or another tend to forget to actually put their names in the blank that is provided on the RSVP. You may even decide to kick the mailmerging up a notch and print the names directly onto the RSVP cards!

Small envelopes are awesome and cute!
