Smallville Summary

Season One Summary

As with every great television series, it must have a solid first season, and Smallville has brought it to the extremes. It starts out just about 20 years ago, in 1989 a meteor shower devastates most of the town of Smallville, Kansas, landing the now toddler Kal-El to Earth. Raised as Clark Kent, his adoptive parents decide to tell him of his origins, now that he has become a teenager. Keeping his powers a secret, he is impelled to help Lex Luthor when his porsche spins out of control and sends him through the bridge into the water below, making him a new friend in the process. Lex becomes obsessed with Clark after his extraordinary rescue; the fact that meteor rocks (radioactive pieces of Clark's home planet) can hurt him, and that his love for Lana Lang is getting him into trouble with her boyfriend Whitney. But wait, it only gets better. Whitney tells Lana he’s joined the Marines and asks her to wait for him, but unbeknownst to Lana, Whitney asks Clark to look out for her while he is away. Clark obviously agrees. Nearing the end of the school year comes the spring formal dance, which despite his feelings for Lana, Clark asks Chloe to accompany him. But what the fates had in store for this night was unforeseeable. A reporter, Roger Nixon uncovers Clark’s secret origins and threatens to expose him. But trouble is brewing ahead as they get wind of tornadoes heading towards Smallville which makes for a "twisted" ending to Season One.

Season Two Summary

Tornadoes have struck Smallville, and Lana is stuck in their wake. Jonathan is lost in the woods, going after a reporter with evidence that will expose Clark's secret. Clark and Lana's relationship grows more intense, merely to be foiled by Whitney's homecoming from the Marines. Clark's hormones trigger the acquirement of a new power. Clark confides in Pete, and finally tells him his secret after the two discover a spaceship in the cornfield. Clark discovers ancient Native American caves that might give him some answers about his origins. Clark comes into contact with a new form of meteor rock also known as kryptonite. He acquires knowledge of his heritage from a Dr. Virgil Swan who intercepted a message from the stars the day of the meteor shower in 1989. Clark finally speaks to his biological father whose intentions for him greatly trouble the young superhero. Seeking to defy Jor-El results in great repercussions for the Kent family, so much so, they cause Clark to runaway from Smallville and exile himself from everybody he knows and loves. Lex gets married, however during the airplane ride on the couple's honeymoon, he wakes up to an unmanned plane coming down quickly and heading straight into the ocean which concludes Season two.

Season Three Summary

Clark has run away to Metropolis and starts going by the name of Cal. Clark has no morals or ethics while under the influence of red kryptonite, Clark has been engaging in several illegal activities in order to pay for his personal expenses and new lifestyle. With everybody still looking for Clark, it might require more than just kryptonite to stop him. Lex is found, still alive and is rescued from a deserted island where it seems he is suffering delusions from malaria. After returning back home to Smallville, Lex agrees to undergo various psychiatric evaluations. Subsequently learning of his father's part in the death of his grandparents, Lex has a psychotic break and Lionel has him institutionalized at Belle Reeve to receive electro-shock therapy in hopes that Lex will not remember his knowledge of his father’s indiscretions. Lex is set up by Lionel and accused of murder, but he strikes a deal with the FBI and agrees to provide evidence against his father for the murder of his parents. With the assistance of Chloe, Lex is capable of proving his case against his father and has him incarcerated to await trial. Clark and Lana's relationship is over no sooner than it begins. Clark meets the infamous Perry White, and discovers more about his biological father. Clark loses his vision, and acquires a new ability of super-hearing. Finally, sacrificing himself to save his father, Clark agrees to fulfill his kryptonian destiny and complete his training with Jor-El. In the "explosive" season finale Lana leaves for Paris, and Chloe and her father’s safe house explodes after their entry.

Season Four Summary

Clark has returned to Smallville, but he is not his usual charming self. Clark is now Cal-El of Kryton due to his training with Jor-El. His mission is to seek out 3 stones of power from around the world. The stones are said to be the key of gaining ultimate knowledge of the universe. Lois Lane arrives in Smallville to search for the truth behind her cousin Chloe's death. Lois finds Clark whom appears to be suffering from amnesia after a 3 month absence, and she takes him to the hospital. Lana, who is still in Paris and with a new love interest, is researching an ancient martyr and witch, Countess Margaret Isobel Thoreaux for an art project who turns out to be Lana's ancestor. Jonathan still lies in a coma, with Martha by his side. Lionel awaits his trial. Martha brings the real Clark back by using a mysterious black kryptonite that she received through a friend of Dr. Swan's named Bridget Crosby. That black kryptonite changes Kal-El back into Clark. At that moment, Jonathan miraculously wakes up from his coma. Lois and Clark find out that Lex saved Chloe and her father from the explosion and she returns just in time for Lionel's trial. Clark decides that his senior year will be the year of Clark, and he comes to the conclusion that he is not interested in what Jor-El or anybody else has in store for his future. He makes his own destiny and chooses who he wants to be. Clark tries out for the football team, and he makes the team as quarterback. He goes through a rough patch with Lana when he discovers she is involved with the Assistant Football Coach Jason Teague. Lionel is convicted of murder and sent to prison. Graduation is nearing, but so is a second meteor shower.

Season Five Summary

Having arrived in the Arctic, after uniting the 3 stones, he has no idea what to do with the crystal that the stones formed. Clark lunges the crystal as far as he can, and when it lands it creates a gigantic ice palace known as the Fortress of Solitude. With the newly formed Fortress of Solitude, Clark begins the task of fulfilling his true destiny, and stopping the coming evil, with the help of Jor-El. Two Kryptonian disciples of General Zod come to Smallville during the second meteor shower in search of Kal-El. Chloe's mystifying disappearance from the caves, and reappearance in a hospital in the Yukon, has Lex growing ever more suspicious of Clark and what he is hiding. Clark meets one of his college professors, Professor Milton Fine, who has several secrets of his own. Aquaman and Cyborg stop by Smallville, and Chloe gets a job at the Daily Planet, starting at the bottom in what is known as the bull pen. Clark defies Jor-El and consequently loses his powers and becomes human, permitting him to finally be honest with Lana and have a real relationship with her. Jonathan and Lex both run for state Senator. Clark speeds progressively closer to the man he will soon become, and an unexpected death plagues Smallville, leaving everyone in shock. Clark gets assistance from an unlikely source and Milton Fine's true motives are exposed, leaving Clark to make a decision that could affect all of humanity of the planet Earth. Fine plants a computer virus that demolishes the technological infrastructure across the universe, causing panic, chaos and looting in every city, this day is referred to as "Dark Thursday". Clark can't possibly save everyone, and at last, Clark encounters the destroyer of Krypton, General Zod, but is it too late?

Season Six Summary

Season Six gives you the very first glimpse into the Phantom Zone, a prison created by Jor-El used to hold criminals from the 28 known inhabited galaxies. The fates of Lionel and Lex play out in the aftermath of Lex's possession by General Zod and Lionel's acceptance as the oracle of Jor-El. Several criminal inhabitants escape the Phantom Zone when Clark frees himself. The new characters Jimmy Olsen, Oliver Queen and the Martian Manhunter are brought in this season, and the first glimpse of the Justice League is witnessed when Victor Stone, Arthur Curry, and Bart Allen all return to Smallville. Lex's relationship with Clark is entirely destroyed as his relationship with Lana advances. Lana soon discloses to Chloe and Lex that she is pregnant and chooses to accept Lex's marriage proposal. Lana and Lex's relationship disbands when she realizes the truth about her pregnancy while at the same time discovers Clark's secret. She attempts to leave Lex and Smallville, but it turns out to have catastrophic consequences. As Lex, Clark, and Lionel all hunt for the missing Phantom Zone escapees, Lex's 33.1 project and experiments of the meteor-infected advance without any regard of the consequences of his actions. It becomes personal for Lois when Lex uses one of her childhood friends as a lab rat and she vows to her friend that she will make sure that Lex never does that to anyone else, and she promises to take him down. Chloe starts a relationship with Jimmy Olsen, however she also discovers that she has a mysterious, unused meteor power. Martha Kent moves to Washington, D.C. to represent Kansas in the US Senate.

Season Seven Summary

In Season Seven, my favorite season so far, Clark Kent learned more about his Kryptonian background and origins, and more about his destiny than the previous six seasons. He battled and defeated the last phantom Bizarro with the help of the Martian Manhunter. Clark’s Kryptonian cousin Kara was released from being trapped underwater at Reeve’s Dam for nineteen years in suspended animation. Clark reunited with and started dating Lana Lang again after she faked her death to get away from Lex. With Clark’s protection she divorced Lex and returned to Smallville. Lana started a non-profit organization with the intent to help meteor-infected individuals who were victimized by Lex and the 33.1 projects. However, Lana constantly tried to overcome conflicting feelings within herself, fueled by anger and hurt over what Lex had done to her. Lana became a victim of the formally known Brain Interactive Construct, Brainiac for short, who put her in a painful catatonic coma for several weeks. Upon waking after Brainiac was destroyed, Lana left Smallville and Clark. Lex became aware of the existence of VERITAS, an elite secret society of the Swans, Luthors, Queens, and the Teagues, based on the theory of the Traveler, a powerful being that would either save the world or destroy it. Lex mercilessly searched for the truth, he continued his controversial research projects and he bought the Daily Planet to control information and news, but the need to know who the traveler was brought him to eventually murder his father Lionel, who was trying to protect the Traveler. Chloe learned how to use her mysterious meteor power, a type of empathic healing, but it also drains her life-force when used. Chloe's career was jeopardized with the hiring of the new Daily Planet editor Grant Gabriel. Grant hired her cousin Lois Lane, but it was eventually revealed that he was actually Lex Luthor's cloned brother. Chloe and Jimmy decided to try and work things out between them, but Jimmy became tangled up in Lex's plot. When Jimmy refused to carry out Lex's demands, Lex had Chloe arrested by the Department of Domestic Security for hacking into classified documents, and her fate remains a mystery. Brainiac revealed to Lex that Clark was the Traveler. Finally discovering the truth about his former friend, Lex and Clark faced off in his Fortress of Solitude. Lex believed he had fulfilled his destiny to destroy the Traveler to protect Earth as the Fortress crashed down around them.
