Smart Goal Setting

Don't even think about setting goals or listening to another self help guru until you've read this controversial letter by clicking here!
If you're wanting to set up goals that you'll actually accomplish.
SMART goal setting is the key.
So what is a SMART Goal?
S.M.A.R.T. is an accronym for
- Specific
- Measureable
- Attainable
- Realistic
- Time Specific
Specific
You're goals need to be specific not vague. A vague goal would be to become a better basketball player. A specific goal would be to make 10 free throw shots in a row, keeping the elbow tucked in by next Friday.
Measurable
How will you know you attained the goal if you haven't measured it? In our example the basketball player wants to make 10 shots in a row. In the vague example he will never really know when he's a better basketball player because he didn't set up a specific goal that could be measured.
Establishing specific criteria for reaching a goal allows you to determine how close you are to achieving it.
Attainable
Is the goal attainable? Can this person actually make 10 shots in a row? I think so. Is your goal attainable?
I'm into having big dreams but can your dreams come true in reality? Don't be afraid to dream big but truly think about what has to happen to actually attain this goal.
Realistic
Is the basketball player realistically going to put in the time to practice? Is he going to focus on keeping his elbow in consistently to make those shots? Is this something that you'll actually do? Is it realistic?
Time Specific
Have you placed a time limit on this? In the vague example the guy wanted to become a better basketball player. By when? By the year 3000? In the right example the guy wants to do it in a week. So by next Friday he'll know if he accomplished his goal or not.
SMART goal setting is a practical way to keep you on track, motivated and working towards achieving your goals.
