Snoring aids
Passive snoring aids
There are different aids that might help you to reduce the snoring. Passive aids that can reduce snoring are: using another anti sleep apnea pillow, do not drink too much, don't sleep on your back.
Foam pillow reduces snoring
People often sleep on old pillows that will not give enough support to the head. The result can be that the tissues in the throat will touch each other and make a vibrating noise. This can sometimes be very loud. Old pillows have the effect that you don't turn around as much as you should in your sleep. You can provoke the snoring by sleeping on an old pillow. When using a new one, choose for a pillow made of foam. These will give much better support to the head and might reduce the snoring some bit.
Drinking and Snoring
While alcohol has indeed have some positive effects, it also induces snoring. When you drink alcohol, you feel dated and your muscles don't work as good as without alcohol. This is also the case for muscles in your throat. Because of this, your airways are more easily obstructed which might cause snoring. If you stop drinking, this might have some positive effect in reducing snoring.
Don't sleep on your back
People sleep on their back, on their side or on their stomach, the one that induces snoring is sleeping on your back. Breathing while laying on your back is harder than breathing wile laying on your side or stomach. On your back, the tissues in your throat have a bigger chance to touch eachother and make the vibrating noise.
Active snoring aids
Loosing weight
One of the main reason why people snore is that they have a weight problem. The fat will gather in and around your throat which will make it easier to obstruct the passageway while asleep. When you loose weight, this has most of the time a positive effect in reducing snoring.
Continuous Positive Air Pressure (CPAP)
A Cpap is a machine that is designed to help you breathing. It will help you to keep your airways open while you are asleep. It works like an air blower, pumping air into your throat and so creating positive air pressure. These machines work very well in reducing snoring. However they are not so comfortable for the snorer as he has to wear a mask which pomps air into his longs. People also have a dry throat cause of these machines.
There are some other devices that can reduce snoring. For instance, you could make use of nasal strips, opening the airways with tape. You could make use of external aids that support your chin or jaw to keep it in place. You could make use of a anti snoring spray, which will tighten the throat muscles. All these recommendations will not help you stop snoring but only give a little relief. If you really want to stop snoring, the best way is to change your fysical way of living. Eath healthy, drink less alcohol and loose weight. Off course there are also who will still have snoring problems after these solutions. For them the CPAP can be a real solution. You could also think of a permanent solution in operating the throat and make the airway passage wider. Surgery however is a last solution.
