When there is a vibration of your soft palate, which is the back part of the roof of your mouth, snoring occurs. There are a number of different factors that can cause snoring. During the time that you are asleep, the muscles that support the opening of the upper airway that is located in the back of your throat, relaxes. With each single breath, the extra tissue in the uvula and the palate, which is the fleshy piece between the tonsils, vibrates and it is these vibrations that cause the actual sound of snoring. There are some people out there whose airway has a tendency to close anytime that it chooses. When narrowing of the airway takes place, it can cause turbulence as well as the noises of snoring.

Symptoms of Snoring

One of the main symptoms of snoring is nasal noise during the time that you are asleep. Normally, the nasal noise is a low to high pitch sound that has a regular or irregular pattern. There are times that these symptoms can be accompanied by heavy breathing as well. If you have trouble with snoring, it is possible that your spouse is searching for ways to prevent you from snoring so that he or she can have a good night’s sleep.

Remedies for Snoring

Weight

One of the most basic snoring remedies is to lose weight.

Studies have shown that people who are over weight tend to snore more than those people who are at their normal weight.

Nettle

Nettle is one of the best snoring remedies because it reduces inflammation of the respitory system.

Mix one cup of boiling water with one tablespoon of dried Nettle Leaf. Cover and let it be for about five minutes, then strain it into a cup.

Start off with one cup a day then work your way up to three cups a day. Make sure you drink one right before going to sleep.

Alcohol

Another one of the more easier to implement snoring remedies. Don't drink alcohol shortly before going to bed.

If you do, your snoring will be worse. Alcohol relaxes the muscles in the throat allowing them to vibrate and make that snoring noise, and the more you drink, the louder you will snore.

Oak Bark

Oak Bark is one of the most effective snoring remedies because it contains tannins which protect the membranes of the throat.

Mix two tablespoons of dried Oak Bark in one cup of boiling water. Soak for 15 minutes, then strain it into a cup.

Step One: Gargle with the mixture and spit it out.

Step Two: Nasal rinse. Cup one of your palms and put about two tablespoons of the mixture into the palm of your hand. Hold one nostril closed and gently sniff the mixture into your nose. Repeat with the other nostril.

Oregon Grape Root

Use the same way as you would use Oak Bark. Oregon Grape Root also acts as an antimicrobial.

Smoking

Another one of those no-brainer snoring remedies...

Quit Smoking!

Smoking can cause swelling of the throat tissues making them more likely to vibrate and cause snoring.

Sleeping Position

Sleeping on your back usually increases your degree of snoring. Try to sleep on your side.

Ear Plugs

The last resort of snoring remedies!

If you have tried everything and you still have a loud snoring problem, invest in a pair of ear plugs for your sleeping partner. They are very inexpensive and can be found in your local drug store.

I snore but it is not that much of a problem. If it was, then my wife would have complained already.
