There are over 25,000 miles of incredibly beautiful groomed trails to explore in Canada. Ladies, this is the style of riding you can thoroughly enjoy! Bring the kids, or take a romantic trip with your man. You can even take a girls only adventure! There are no limits up here, and it is well worth the ride!

MY FIRST suggestion:

Wether you need to rent sleds, or if you are towing up your own, take a couple of days off from work and drive up just North of Quebec sometime between the last weekend in January, and the first two weekends in February. This is for the Winter Carnival - or Carnival De Quebec. The events take place in Quebec City. You will find everything from Ice Castles, to Ice Golf, Ice Pool Tables, Ice Fishing for Kids, Sleigh Rides through the park de Abraham, Romantic French Music, parades, and world wide Champion Ice Sculpting Contests! This will be an adventure you will never forget!

Book your hotel early for this one if you want to stay in Quebec City that night. Normally, I NEVER booked hotels while riding through Canada - except for this event. Thousands of people come from all over the world. It gets busy and hotels get booked. You may luck out and find a place to stay anyway, but you may have to drive to several locations before you find one. As long as you are not picky and are in no rush - take the chance. Otherwise - book early.

Places to stay: there are many! Chateu Frontenac is the most photographed hotel in all of Canada. For good reason too! It's a gorgeous old castle looking building right on the edge of the St. Lawrence River. The main events happen right outside the doors. Everything is within walking distance. Ice Sculpting contests, restaurants, shops, dog sledding, ice skating, tobaggan rides, Antique Snowmobile Rides through the park, Tube rides down the mountain on the snow. French Concerts, and parades to name just a few! You can't go wrong here. It's amazing, and a bit pricey - but still not bad for the location and the view!

There is also the Loews Le Concorde. It's right in the Park De Abraham. IT has a revolving dining room at the top. The glass elevator is on the OUTSIDE of the building! The view of old Quebec City is amazing. During high winds, the elevator is closed! The views are spectacular! Still walking distance to many events including the romantic sleigh rides.

There are many bed and breakfasts to stay in here and lots of hotels in the city. You just might have to take a cab or bus from there to the main event. Everyone in the city will know where you are going so no worries there.

BON HOMME! This guy is fantastic! He is the big huge snowman who is the ICON of the Carnival. You will see him everywhere! He's a GOOD MAN!

Carabou! No, not the big deer! This is a snazzy little drink you will grow to love during the festival. Hot or cold, it's sold on every street corner. It's like a thick red wine. First sip is tough to swallow - after that  - you will find yourself buying the Bon Homme Walking stick and filling it several times during the night with Carabou wine to keep you toasty warm and smiling big!

Love the pictures! I definitely want to visit Quebec City sometime for vacation. I've seen pictures of some ice hotel(?) they have near there and it looks AMAZING (and really cold).

Yes! You can actually make reservations to stay at the Ice Hotel! I have not yet done this - we did try to find it on a wim up there - but for some reason we could not locate it : ( I remember it was quite pricey to stay - at least $300 (Canadian) but I beleive it included dinner & breakfast. I will find the information for you and post it here! Check back soon!
