So you are potty training that two year old
65First and foremost...... do not despair.
I have not yet known of a kindergartner carrying a diaper bag to school.
Show your child what to do... at an age you feel he/she is ready for it. Follow that instinct inside.... it will tell you when that time is.
Just be simple and matter of fact...... telling the child how everyone has to learn to go potty .. then have him/her pull her diaper down and help the child get onto the potty. The time sitting does not have to be long.
The main idea here is to train the child into knowing what must be done to go to the potty... pants down, sit, pants up, flush, wash hands.
Do this in regular intervals throughout the day. Do not expect anything to happen while sitting on the potty... not yet. If it does... that is a huge plus factor!
Now..... start keeping note of how wet your child is upon waking each morning. When he/she wakes up dry... you will know he/she has become quite regulated with urination.
Now is the time to take the big LEAP.
Remove the diapers and put on training pants.
Yes.. it is scary... especially at the thought of everything being wet for days on end.... but it won't be.
Your child will have accidents... and you have to allow this.... for the child to feel the wet undies, the wet legs..etc.
I would guess that it would take maybe a week from this point to where the child really "gets" it..... when it clicks from brain to bottom and the child understands what is happening. Your child already knows what to do.... you have already taught that.
Oh .. it will not be the end of accidents..... but the diaper days are now done.
Prepare for reminding...for when the child is fully imersed in something..... he/she will wait too long... just as you did at that age.... and.. running crosslegged to the bathroom ....will not make it.
Do not get angry....just remember yourself way back when.....
and always remember....
No kindergartner has yet had to take his/her diaper bag to school.

And I am sure you got it.. :) Potty training is really one of the most natural things in the world. All get through it.
