The ability to jump high is something that is necessary in order to be a good athlete. It comes especially handy if you play volleyball or basketball. You need to exert explosive effort to power up your legs and get you to jump high in the air to make all the shots that other people are unable to do. If you are interested in learning how to jump higher for basketball, what you need to do is to improve the muscles in your legs, training them how to function in a way that allows them to contract and expand in rapid succession. This method will lend them the needed power that it takes to get them to make you spring upward to make a high jump.

Increasing Your Jump

What does it take to increase your jump? Should you weigh less in order to become lighter and able to leap higher into the air? There is absolutely no need for that. What you should be focusing on is to strengthen your thighs and legs. These are the tools you need to propel you to jump higher in the air, and as such, you need to do the right workouts to strengthen them.

Squat Low, Jump High

Squats are one of the best ways for you to strengthen your legs. This type of workout trains you to move upward as high as you can from a low starting point. Over time, squats will cause your legs to become more powerful and able to drive the rest of your body up.

A good squatting exercise involves starting low, with one foot held in front of you, the other in the back. Squat down low, then jump up high. Do several reps of this and add some variety to it by jumping from side to side, backward and forward, and switching legs.

Do Plyometrics Exercises

Plyometrics is a series of exercises meant to train the muscles to work hard, expand, and contract rapidly, designed to enable a person to jump higher. Different types of workouts comprise plyometrics, so ask your coach or trainer to develop an appropriate training program for you. Just make sure that you're in good shape; plyometrics is not for everyone, least of all people who are physically unfit.
