Social Marketing: Communication and Style
54What Makes You - Uniquely You?
When Ann Sieg’s Renegade Network Marketer e-book came across my desk one day, I was introduced to a new style of marketing called attraction marketing - also known as social marketing. It was a way to attract prospects to my business using the internet - and a completely different approach to marketing than what I had always known. Could a change in style really make a difference?
Different Styles
We all have different styles. I remember being caught in traffic near a huge intersection. With nothing better to do than sit there, I amused myself by watching all the vehicles moving in every direction. Then I started paying closer attention. Do you know how many different vehicles are on the road? Next time you are in traffic, take a look. Every vehicle was different - every one a different color, year, make, size, style and in every imaginable condition. I knew that already, of course, but targeting my thoughts around the scene in front of me made me shake my head in wonder at the wide variety of choices, styles and opportunities we have.
Finding The Renegade Network Marketer and System began a new journey for me into the world of social marketing. I was interested enough to pursue the information, but it wasn’t until days later that it really hit me. Social Marketing is about communication - in all of its forms and styles.
Social marketing skills are a learned process and, while social marketing training is basically a structured system, no two people will come out exactly alike. We have been wired differently. Our approach to learning is directly affected by the experiences we draw from - a lifetime of them.
I eventually did, in fact, begin learning about social marketing at a professional site called Renegade University - where I realized that finding my own style of communication was the first order of business. But, as I began creating content, I hit a brick wall. It was a startling revelation. I didn’t know what my style was.
It Has To Come From Your Heart
I watched network marketing video of other people, I read Hub pages, Squidoo pages and Ezine articles. I did all the tutorials and came up frustrated. I tried to pattern my work after those I was reading about. It was not a pretty site and it took hours and hours to create anything. I knew that if I could not find my niche and like what I was writing, it would never work.
I went to my computer one more time and thought about how I love to write stories. With that in mind, I quit thinking about everyone else’s stuff and just started writing. In 45 minutes, I had created the first content that was truly mine - and I liked it. It had come from my heart.
We are all wired differently. We watch different movies, eat different food and read different books. Creating content should follow in the same way. What flows from the heart of one person, won’t work at all for the next. It has been said that variety is the spice of life. Social Marketing is filled with variety. It’s a different way to market. Perhaps it is not your style, but you never know - it just might be. Click here to find out how.

Great analogy Wendy! Your article reminds me of a quote I heard about being the best you you can be and not a carbon copy of someone else. I think I heard it on Oprah but I don't know who said it originally.
